Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development
Isn't the Scout Outdoor Centre heritage listed?
I'll be glad to see Teds Cameras bulldozed.

Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development
Teds and the neighbouring building where Zambrero is are all I can think of, but Ted's just refurbished. I think you're right crawf about the Scout Centre and I'd be very surprised if the buildings where Super Elliot's is aren't protected.
It's not on Rundle St per se, but I'd love to see that big dead space in front of the carpark on Frome St (next to Rhino Room) developed. It would have to better than the rubbish they built in the other side of the road though.

The Union Street carpark is currently for sale. I wonder whether this is the site?

Some decent height? On Rundle Street? Wow, way to suggest ruining the character of one of Adelaide's prime retail and dining strips. Why do developers insist on ruining destinations that are fine, when there are many dead spots that could do with a World of improvement.metro wrote:Just judging on the last few Hines "landmark" projects; Conservatory, Crowne Plaza, and Ibis.. I wouldn't get my hopes up for anything different, I'd expect just another ordinary concrete/glass box between 40-70m tall, nothing too different so that it fits the character of the East-End's heritage. But hopefully they come up with something of decent height, maybe similar height to Vue, and a unique design to contrast it with the surrounding heritage structures and the crap recent architecture of the 90s-00s.
As for where such a building might be located.. I'm guessing Teds Cameras, it could also include the facades of one or both neighboring buildings. Another could be the Super Elliott cycles and/or the Scout Outdoor Centre buildings.

I don't mind seeing some height on Rundle St as long as the tower is setback on a podium, with the podium continuing the existing streetscape scale.Patrick_27 wrote:Some decent height? That's not rundle street. Will wrote:The Union Street carpark is currently for sale. I wonder whether this is the site?

How about the corner of east terrace and rundle street (north side). The south side (stag hotel)
of this intersection is heritage. I would think that would be the ideal location as the
apartments could then overlook the parklands.
Whenever I drive down rundle road towards east terrace I always get disappointed that
there's hardly any tall buildings in this area.

Could Greater Union be wanting to return to Hindley Street?
They are refusing to commit to a lease extension for Edge Church (even though they promised a response by Christmas).

HIGHLY unlikely. Don't forget, they demolished the old cinema and built Edge. On-top of that I think GU's priority is opening their new Glenelg cinema and making it work.Brucetiki wrote:Could Greater Union be wanting to return to Hindley Street?

Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development
I always found it odd that a church organisation would want to be in the vicinity of adult stores and strip clubs... along Hindley Street.
They should bulldoze the whole complex and start again.

Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development
You might think its odd, but its a pretty novel way for the church to attract new members... reminds them not to sin. Its a bit like temptation.

HQ site for sale.. clubbers still welcomed

I mentioned a couple of months ago that I reckon HQ's days are numbered. Whatever the outcome Adelaide needs a mega club similar in size to HQ, whether it's on Hindley Street or the current location.

I've always felt that that tiny Wilson's car-park on North Terrace just down from Pultney next to University Senior's College could be converted to a 2,000 capacity venue. Great location, with the university within close proximity and the thick brick walls would make for great soundproofing. Personally, if I had the money I'd go about the venture myself.crawf wrote:HQ site for sale.. clubbers still welcomed

In regards to the article, I believe HQ already intend to move and take with them their current form as a live music venue and club.
