[U/C] M2 North-South Motorway
[U/C] Re: News & Discussion: South Road / North-South Corridor
2 years until both projects are completed I wonder when an announcement on the next stage will be announced. Hopefully we won't have to wait until the 2018 state election election but I fell that is what will happen, meaning probably the next stage won't start until 2019 at the earliest?

From reading the planning study paper, they should announce the next segments and be ready to start as the current segments finish.Ben wrote:2 years until both projects are completed I wonder when an announcement on the next stage will be announced. Could we hopefully expect an early announcement on the ~500m section between Pym Street and Regency Road sooner rather than later?
Makes absolutely no sense having two sets of lights between two 'freeways'.

They're already well underway in demolishing the houses along the western side of South Rd between Torrens Rd and Pym St. I doubt there would be much disjoint between the two projects.

T2T spans from the Torrens to Pym Street. It's all one project.Pistol wrote:Could we hopefully expect an early announcement on the ~500m section between Pym Street and Regency Road sooner rather than later?

Drove from SExy all the way to Salisbury Highway today. Not much fuss. Did have a thought though. What'll happen to the overpass over Cross Road?

From memory it will be retained and another overpass will be built to the west. The general plan for the corridor is contained in the planning document from DPTI linked several dozen pages back.ChillyPhilly wrote:T2T spans from the Torrens to Pym Street. Pistol I agree that they need to join the two projects/freeways asap/in the next few years. By 1) I think that Pym St should be made left turn only (both ends) so closed off & traffic lights removed. 2) An overpass/underpass built for Regency Rd/South Rd (which should be planned/budgeted/govt. funds requested now/soon). My guess all up $50m-$100m.
[U/C] Re: News & Discussion: South Road / North-South Corridor
Since when? Last announcement was the extension northwards to Pym St. I hadn't heard they had stretched it all the way to, and including, Torrens Rd intersection.ChillyPhilly wrote: T2T spans from the Torrens to Pym Street. It's all one project.

The original project would have seen the trench end just south of Torrens Road, and become at-grade there. But last year the scope of the project was expanded thanks to cost savings found in the tendering process, and so the trench will continue under Torrens Road and emerge near Pym Street.

Edit: Damn, I feel stupid. I completely misread the post I was replying to.
I agree. The stretch between Pym and Regency isn't too bad though. The road is wider and it's only a short distance. I think we'll see that completed last.

Yeah, my post was partly wrong as well. I got my streets mixed up - I meant T2T was most recently extended to Pym St and wouldn't extend to *Regency* Rd. So 'The Gap' remains.
[U/C] Re: News & Discussion: South Road / North-South Corridor
The issue is that this 'gap' will cost far more than the 50-100M it would cost if they did the work as part of the T2T.
Plus, traffic is already being disrupted from Pym St onwards so it makes sense to continue this to Regency Road.
Like I said, pointless having two sets of lights between two freeways...

Exactly. Seems crazy not to add a bit more to the T2T budget to extend it to Regency. Isn't there some $150m savings from Northern Connector being floated about? State asking Feds to redirect it to Oaklands rail grade separation? Would have thought better allocated to removing 'the Gap'.Pistol wrote:The issue is that this 'gap' will cost far more than the 50-100M it would cost if they did the work as part of the T2T.

I agree, if they did it now it would save many $$$. Surprising no one has raised it considering it's a small outlay relative to the billions they have/are investing up to here. Maybe time Pistol to begin a campaign? Btw, does the forum think it will be an overpass or underpass built at Regency Rd/South Rd?

[U/C] Re: News & Discussion: South Road / North-South Corridor
I saw somewhere ages ago that it was to be an overpass. Here's a very quick mock-up I made assuming the motorway is continued as an underpass below Regency, with the current intersection moved slightly north. The Motorway would use land to the west to protect the ground of the Croydon Kings (located to the east of South Road, south of the edge of this map). The South Road surface road could at least partially remain, in particular the southbound carriage in entirety. I haven't drawn in a northbound South Road surface road, but let's just assume it's there.how good is he wrote:I agree, if they did it now it would save many $$$. Looks good. Good to see no resumption of homes/buildings to make it an easier process. So land used is from (govt) TAFE on the left and Coopers on the right which would/should have a dept transport easement to stop any future building l assume. If so, could be built in 12 months.
