Note sure if it has already had posts - Did anyone read Stuart Gregor's blog " Dear Adelaide, be cool, stay weird" . He hit the nail on the head . In a nut shell we he goes on to say we have to stop trying to be Melbourne and embrace our unique even weird city/culture.

To me this doesn't mean we shouldn't be passionate about high rise in our CBD or modernising our infrastructure, just means we should run with what we have. Simple yet affective . A lot of being stagnant has to do with our own mindset continually doubting our city and policies that govern it.

Made me think of that skinny weird yet friendly kid in high school that kept trying out for first 18 football, but made a fool of himself . When he finally accepted who he was and embraced it years when by only to be in a very successful band with financial freedom and a gorgeous gal. He's still skinny and weird. Get my point RAdelaide you mofo! :D

Carnnnnnnnn Freo!!!!

I saw it...I skipped over it..

I don't think Adelaide is trying to be a Melbourne?
There are a lot of references to Melbourne when something new happens...like the laneways activation stuff.
So what?

We should be doing these things to improve our city, not because Melbourne or any other city have similar things or done this or that, but because such things will improve OUR city of Adelaide.

As annoying as it is, I think the reference to other cities is inevitable, in any city, not just Adelaide.

What could help start changing attitudes for the better, is having some competition for NewsCorps newspapers in this state.
If we had another SA daily paper circulating the hacks who call them selves journalists at the Advertiser/SundayMail might actually have to pull their socks up and do some real journalistic work for a change.

One of our sister cities (Austin, Texas) has a slogan "Keep Austin wierd!" It's an arty university city, which also happens to be the capital of a state that was founded in 1836 (sound familiar?).
cheers,

Funny you say that, my brother just got back from 3 months in the US, they winged the trip just going with the flow. They enjoyed and stayed in Austin longer than anywhere else. This is why I like hear ye hear ye Yarwood he has the right vision for Adelaide , from what I've seen.

The Wine State, The Festival State ... or ..Creative, High Tech etc etc.
Should SA brand itself with a specific identity eg premium quality food and wine? Wolf Blass thinks so.

Wolf Blass has ‘Wine State’ vision for SA
South Australian wine maker, Wolf Blass is calling upon the SA government to focus on one of the state’s most renowned commodities - wine - in an effort to forge a new identity for the state on the world stage.

Wolfgang Blass, who founded the Wolf Blass winery in the Barossa Valley in 1966, has a vision for South Australia to become exclusively known as the ‘Wine State’ by focusing on the production of premium quality food and wine Adelaide Now reports.

"Gourmet wine and food is what we do best and what we should be offering to the world,” said Blass.
"We need to stop talking about mining booms and car manufacturing, and festivals of art in this state. We just need to settle once and for all that we are the Wine State and get on with selling ourselves."

According to Blass, SA makes up for 55 percent of Australian wine exports, which equates to 500 million bottles each year.
"That's a massive opportunity that we're wasting."

Blass said that the industry will be calling upon support from independent senator Nick Xenophon to push for changes to wine tax policy and the wine equalisation tax - a value-based tax on wine consumed in Australia that applies to 29 percent of the value of the wine at the last wholesale sale before adding GST.

"I think we are relying pretty heavily on Nick and a couple of other senators to get involved and get this situation changed," said Blass.
"We desperately need to restructure and get extra money coming in for the promotion of Australian wine overseas."

A wine maker wants the Government to focus entirely on promoting wine over other industries? Shocked.

Hi guys,
I have an idea on what to do with the old RAH site that could be incorporated with one of the other ideas.
it is kind of a 'museum of South Australia' which would incorporate the history of South Australia. It could also be housed at the Port which would be an added bonus, because then the ' City of Adelaide ' clipper could be used.

Any thoughts?

Very interesting read!
Morphett Vale was once known as Emu Downs
I would have much preferred to grow up in Emu Downs!
Looking forward to a free-flowing Adelaide!

That's why the Morphie (Morphett Vale Tavern) as it was called when I was growing up down South is now known as the Emu Hotel. A nod back to the old name.
