I was thinking to myself last night, and I believe that many people actually dont fathom the intensity of this boom we are going through.

Many have highlighted that the boom will not peak until another 4-5 years away, and we have already compiled a accurate outlook by the end of 2008 with around 23 cranes on the skyline - a record, but it wont stop there. Come 2012,2013 - when some of the mines actually begin full production, the peak of the boom will arrive, and what have we then? 50 cranes?

Adelaide is going to change.

Not being negative or anything, but where did this figure of 23 cranes on the skyline come from? I have read it a couple of times on the forum, and yet I cannot fathom where these 23 cranes will come from? What will they be building? My more realistic estimate is that there will probably be around 12 cranes in the skyline at the end of the year.

Ben, to help you out, im in the midst of compiling all that data into an Excel document, so that when a project has started construction or a new one is up, you can change it accordiongly without any fuss. You just simply upload it as an attachment each time you update it, as well as re-editing the original post with the newest update.

I think this will really benefit your efforts you have put in so far.

This figure of 23 probably eventuated from the assumption that all proposals would go ahead from Oct. 2006 .

Till now I counted over 30 bldgs over 10 floors proposed. Eg. Freemasons, Pirie St Planet site, Ruthven Mansions etc etc. If ALL were going up it would be far more that 12 cranes, but I agree with you Will, 12 is more realistic.

As to effects of the boom, yes, big chances there if the current slowdown in Brisbane does not flow on to us. I have a very close friend here who till recently managed entire building construction sites. He did not seem to know too much about what happened in Bris. (strange) So maybe not as much in the Bris. situation as the papers have it.

So if you'll download this Excel document, you'll see for yourself the buildings under construction, approved (with designated month of cosntruction) and a list of approved/proposed projects that are earmarked for potential development.

The red highlights identify the buildings who have a crane, orange highlights those who used to but are still under construction. At the moment, we have 6 cranes in the city.

Basically I've done it in this format, so everyone can view it, and amend it where and when required to do so in light of updated information on a project.
It's all yours folks!

I got a copy from the Advertiser, scanned it to Paint and then cropped it, saving it as a jpeg. It only took me 2 days to work out how to do it! (not a computer genius by any stretch of the imagination!)

We do need to be careful though, as I think I may be breaching copyright!

Brilliant Shuz. This has been a favourite occupation of mine since being on this site - did I collate it onto the site - only in part under construction 2008. This is far better - and far more impressive than Brisbane now - V encouraging.

Milkiebarkid - fantastic photo - I've been after one like this for some time - but being in Brisbane it's not easy. Makes the CBD look like it is really moving along with those cranes spread so evenly.Again, hope the Brisbane fallout does not take any 'scalps' here.
