In another example, the greenway along the Outer Harbour line is being continued on from Gibson St as part of the Torrens Junction project, and yet continuing it over Chief St is not on their radar
Really? I emailed DPTI about this a couple of months ago and got the following reply:
Here is the status of each section of the greenway:

· The South Road to Coglin Street section is being constructed by the South Road Torrens to Torrens project. This section includes the overpass of South Road.

· The Adelaide Park Lands to East Street section is being designed and constructed by the Torrens Rail Junction project. This section includes the underpass of Park Terrace.

· The design for the remaining section from East Avenue to Coglin Street is being completed by DPTI. Construction of this section is funded. Works are anticipated to start later this year and be completed around the same time as the Torrens Rail Junction project.
Have you heard otherwise?

Meeting with the RenewalSA Bowden team last night (to discuss the gasworks site), and they expressed that they were having trouble with DPTI on that particular aspect (amongst all the other things).

Bloody hell - I was really looking forward to that being completed.

I've sent the guy in DPTI another email to see if he's able to clarify. Seems ridiculous to build two brand new shared pathways only to leave out a paltry 200m connecting portion - especially as that Chief Street detour is so frustrating.

And without warning Gibson St is closed again

I get the long term benefits of the project, but some of the communication during the works has left a lot to be desired.

That means you now how the choice of Park Ice (Torrens Junction works), South Rd (T2T works), and Chief St (now heavily congested) as the only ways through the area. Makes the commute to work all that much more a pain in the arse.

To be fair on that one, there was warning. There was a letterbox drop around the entire area, and an email went out if you were on the mailing list.

Surrounding suburbs don't get any notification.
It's the same with the T2T, with for example the Torrens-South Roads intersection.
There's very little communication happening.
One day the intersection is open, the next it's closed and down to one lane north and south bound.

They aren't even putting up those electronic sign boards warning people in advance.

Sorry but it's the departments responsibility to inform people, not peoples responsibility to go digging for a mailing list to sign up to. But you have fun with your mailing lists Nathan.

I've taken to just using Port road, and avoiding work on the T2T at Torrens-South road, and the Torrens Junction on Park Tce.
At least it's 3 lanes and flows somewhat.

A couple of those big LED signs would've come in handy too

I would have thought if you choose to drive to the city through the middle of a project like this it wouldn't be unreasonable to look into the impact on roads. It took all of 5 minutes to find that information on the dpti site?

Good closure coming up for Port road this weekend too, but I wont spoil the surprise, hopefully someone has put up some bright flashy signs...

There's been one set up for a long time on Gibson St as you head to Port Rd, giving various closure updates. Not sure about going the other way though, or any other roads.

In the past couple of weeks there has been a significant level of activity along the corridor from Gaol Jn to Chief St. At Gaol Jn new crossovers have been installed with new signalling to allow direct access from the Gawler line (to be) into the stabling sidings at the Adelaide Yard. The bridge carrying the middle tracks (new Gawler line) across the Torrens are being sandblasted. Capping of retaining walls between the river and Torrens Jn has continued. West of the junction the trench excavation is underway.

However at the junction itself progress seems somewhat slower. A new length of track for the ARTC line has been laid across the underpass bridge towards North Adelaide but remains unconnected at both ends. Some ARTC signalling work is evident, but the transfer of the ARTC line to the new track does not seem to be imminent, and until this occurs the Gawler line can't be connected to the (old) Port line at Torrens Jn, which in turn would enable the underpass dive from Torrens Bridge to commence excavation. At the junction there is a pile of concrete beams which look as if they will form part of the underpass bridge deck.

Gawler Line returned to service this morning. Trains are still using the old tracks for now, the line shift hasn't happened yet. They are also still building the realigned interstate line.

So what was this shutdown used for? Probably some more piling and capping around the junction where the rail lines are. There might be another Gawler Line shutdown coming in December.
