DPTI are also in 50 Flinders St, next to Santos. I'm sure they have about 3 or 4 levels in there.
It's another site not many know about.
Why does DPTI need to move from its current location ?
Read the article.

Is it normal interstate to have any one government departments sprawled across heaps of office buildings? By that I mean, if the DPTI have offices in three or four buildings, why are the government not working towards getting them in one building? Surely it's better for productivity, not have staff moving between sites for meetings and such and having them in one building.

The Queensland government realised exactly that and consolidated a lot of it into the 1 William St development. 46 levels of office space that was otherwise sprawled all over the city.

It's not just better for productivity - could you imagine the amount of money the SA government bureaucracy wastes on facilities management??? (And the rest).

^^again, read the article

DPTI is consolidating from seven sites down to one, and saving $50 million in leasing costs over 10 years.

I would have preferred DPTI get the QT building off the ground by tenanting its office space, as that'd have more of an uplift effect than this. Or even 80 Currie or 199-200 North, but C&G seem to be doing nothing with them.

Still, the influx of hundreds of workers should help solidify and expand Pirie Street's nascent hospitality district. There's also the ongoing Maras redevelopment across the road, and the supposedly forthcoming Hyatt.
That last point is even more pertinent considering a few hundred AGD staff just moved out of 45 Pirie into the GPO building.

About 4 years ago DEW (DEWNR at the time) consolidated 7 sites into 81-95 Waymouth St.

Very good for productivity but the floorplates are large enough for about 120 people per floor, which can get very noisy.

So 7 sites with no clue how to plan their way out of a paper bag, into one useless conglomeration... sounds very efficient. 👍🏻

The curious part for me is that they were partly located on Grenfell St, meaning staff would see that godawful excuse for a transit corridor every day but doing nothing about it.

Thanks for the clarity, guys. Interestingly, I know that our planning laws leave a lot to be desired but I do also wonder why our government has allowed so many businesses to set up and tenant buildings along the CBD fringe on Fullarton and Greenhill Road(s) when if you consider the alternative, those tenants will probably fill a lot of the vacant office space remaining across the CBD and in turn allow for residential development along these corridors (might also have a positive impact on the public use of the parklands).

What if businesses want to set up on the fringe of the city? The rent is probably cheaper, customers may be closer and not all businesses are suitable for the CBD. Some people also prefer to work in the suburbs than in the CBD.

The key is to give people choice and only exercise a reasonable amount of control. It is a democracy after all.

It's free enterprise.. or capitalism. You can't force a company to locate in the CBD, when they can have a lower cost rent with on site parking on another site. Likewise if a developer chooses to bulldoze an old house on a main road, and build offices, then the local councils will not oppose it because of the extra revenue they receive from the value of the new office development. A problem does arise where local councils adjacent to the parklands are competing with the CBD for attracting commercial deveopements. Realistically many of the businesses along green hill and similar roads are often not suited to the CBD environment as the attract high drive up and service vehicle trade.

Read the article for what, details about my points about Queensland? Or do you think DPTI is the whole SA government?

Now tendering - Multiplex, Lendlease, Hansen Yuncken, and Hindmarsh. Interesting mix. Multis and LL would have to be favourites with this client.

Makes you wonder why taller buildings can get up in strange pockets of the city (like CBD east) meanwhile there seems to be this stunted growth with those buildings along Waymouth/Pirie and Currie/Grenfell. This building looks great but would have looked better with a podium spanning the whole site and a slimmer tower on top add 25m to the roof.
