No.
Built are the construction company. Hassell are the Architects for the GPO building. Woods Bagot are the Architects for U City.
Would have expected much more from Hassell. They did a good job on the SA Water building.

Looks like the front of the building is a bit staggered.

The view from the northern end of Vic Sq (looking west down Franklin) will be pretty different in a couple of years assuming that proposal for the gap between Bentham apartments and PwC goes ahead. Along with that hotel mooted for the patch behind Tower 8 and the hotel on the GPO site that's going to be a seriously densely-built block of the city.

It is a pity the Spire apartment project was never built.

It's also a shame that the City Central development was built.
Absolutely shocking.

City Central would have been much better if it wasn't all a bunch of stumpy boxes.
I can only imagine what would be proposed for the sites today, when we have a flurry of 130~m proposals and U/C.

Yep I pretty much agree with the sentiments above. This is a bunch of very below average buildings in a prime location. The ATO building is kinda pass-able with its glass pods n stuff.... but a shame because it also has the most office floor space of any building in the CBD. It could've been home to a 150 metre plus tower.

I agree that it does seem like a massive missed opportunity but would it be at all possible in future to extend the height of these buildings or would the foundations not be able to handle it resulting in a total rebuild?

I know it's still under construction and it might just be me but this building is seriously looking nothing like the renders. There are no "stepped levels" or yellow and green colours in the renders.
Are they making it up as they go?

FFS. The yellow is the pillars which you won't see once the exterior windows go in and the green is merely the colour of the safety mesh used to enclose each floor as the building works its way up. The 'stepped levels' are the distinction between he podium and building itself.
I'm sick of people getting so pissed off with a building that hasn't even started to show it's true colours.
