Slow?! Trains are supposed to be fast and should be made to go as fast as possible between stations, not as slow as possible :wallbash:

Methinks they need to have another look at Subiaco....

I’m not sure where to put this but I do have a question, do places like Blakesview that are being established in the Northern suburbs have room for upgrades to public transport? With growth in that side of the Sturt highway seeming to increase I can’t see how we allow developments to occur without things like train lines being implemented or at least allow for in the future?

I’m hoping someone with some inside knowledge may know the answer to this.

I wasn't aware of any development at Blakeview. In fact, being a southerner, I had never heard of it until you mentioned it.

Just searched it on Google Maps and it appears to be very close to the Gawler line. I imagine with electrification of the rail lines the government will be looking to add more bus 'feeder' services to the rail lines.

The two major housing projects that I know of up there are at Concordia and Buckland Park. The developers for the Concordia area have included an extension to the Gawler line as part of the project (at their expense). Over at Buckland Park I heard there was talk of possibly using the Northern Connector as a passenger line, with extension to Buckland Park, or possibly connecting via the current Virginia line. Although these are both hearsay. I'd hope that some plan was being included and train line reservations allocated throughout the development, not just to the door step.

Blakes Crossing development at Blakeview:

Apart from Blakeview, Andrews Farm and Munno Para West are also undergoing suburbification, and Davoren Park and Smithfield Plains are undergoing Urban Renewal as part of the Playford North project.

Southern Expressway set for duplication

The South Australian Government has announced it will duplicate the Southern Expressway in Adelaide's southern suburbs at a cost of $445 million.

Construction is expected to start at the end of 2011 and would be completed by the middle of 2014.

The Liberal Opposition is also expected to announce a plan to duplicate the Expressway if it wins the March 20 poll.

Opposition Leader Isobel Redmond stopped short of making any announcement when she was on ABC Radio today.

"I'm not making any announcements this morning ... I'm no longer in charge of my own destiny and I know that there's a timetable about things that are being announced and I'm not going to be changing that timetable on air," she said.

The Expressway operates in only one direction at any time.

It is understood the Liberals would commit $275 million in a first term of government to the road duplication plan.

I love this. The Leader of the Opposition says "... I am no longer in charge of my own destiny ..." . Let's vote for her!

Great. The road is supposed to cost $445million. First they built half a freeway, now they want to build half of the second half.
cheers,

yes i plan on voting for the libs.

media mike has spent about $300 million over the past 8 years on spin doctors, marketing gurus and advertising campaigns telling us what a great great guy he is.
imagine if this $300M was spent on fixing adelaide's roads instead of massaging media mike's massive ego.

if people want to play the blame game then fine... let's blame dunstan's labour govt for binning the MATS plan back in 1970 and putting a 10 year moratorium on freeway construction in adelaide.
dunstan put the kybosh on MATS but he never had a plan b to tackle adelaide's transport problems and basically sat on his arse for 10 years doing nothing.

you could argue all of adelaide's transport problems are labour's fault going back the the 1970's.

i blame the British Liberal party for not funding a convict colony in SA. I mean how could we be expected to build roads without several chain gangs! We've been on the back foot ever since...

$300M is a lot but if you think the Libs would spend 1 cent less then I'm sorry but you are deluding yourself. Opposition parties always promise to slash spending and waste while in opposition but fail to deliver when they win government. PR spending is just a fact of modern politics and one over which no major Australian party can honestly claim to have the moral high ground.

your probably right... but i live in hope that the libs are not political animals like rann and want to spend their lives 24/7 trying to manipulate the media.

what really gets on my tit is foley coming out saying there is no money to do anything when they are wasting so much.

The Rann government has spent billions on fixing South Australia's roads. I wonder how much the Libs would've spent on Transport and Infrastructure if they were in power.
