There is 3.2km of road between T2t to James Congdon Drive with about 70 residential style properties(many with businesses in them) each worth about $450,000-600,000 and 20 larger businesses properties.
Lets say you can buy the residential properties for $40million, but lets round up to $100million just because. That gives each property over $1million!
Then buy the larger properties for $200million(that is $10mil to each business!), giving a total of $300million.
I am fairly confident all this land can be gotten for far far far less than the above.
$300million and you have all the land you need for 3km or you could build a tunnel for $300-500million per km.


Also everyone forgets about upkeep of bridges and tunnels. They are not one off costs.
The ongoing upkeep of a trench will be significantly less than a tunnel.

Dollar for dollar maybe, but then you have an 80+ metre wide corridor through a prime inner metro location. How does that stack up against the 30 year plan?

I do not see an issue. It would be a greatly improved area compared to what it is currently.
Locals should be pleased by the significantly reduced road noise and less traffic on the surface road.
It will be faster, safer and easier to get to the city and back. The same is true for access to the school, with much less traffic to fight against

What is the negative?

I just scribbled together what I think the Henley Beach Road intersection might look like and maybe the service station would stay.

Black is surface South Road.
Purple is North-South Motorway trench and then tunnel under surface South Road.

Fix Daws Road/South Road - In the top 3 worst intersections in the city

Access for the city and school would be improved for pedestrians also.
For St George College I can't see any better place to cross currently or in the future than at Henley Beach Road, it is located right at that intersection. That intersections will have significantly less traffic for pedestrians.
Same for the city, you can only cross the train lines at the main roads and those intersections will have significantly less traffic back at South Rd.

Yes it should. Currently over 40,000 vehicles use this stretch of South Road daily, and this will only continue to increase especially once the T2T project is complete. Adelaide already made the mistake decades ago by not implementing a long term transport solution. The completed corridor will encourage and entrench car dependency and private vehicles as the transport mode of choice for north to south journeys across and within metropolitan Adelaide. It absolutely must be at least six lanes where possible.

The ultimate intention of the corridor is to facilitate safer and more efficient movement of freight, but it will serve more purposes than that, just like how America's Interstate network was intended for military purposes but quickly took on an economical role instead.

I theorized they might be for signage..but I doubt.

The big drawback with tunnels and trenches is that, in the future when demand has increased and the road has reached capacity, they cannot be easily widened to accomodate extra lanes. So it is deirable that you make them extra wide to future proof them. For that reason, 6 lanes for the inner city section is a must.

Last one, this time showing works on the southern end of the Northern Connector. It's hard to see the works in general, but hopefully they will become more visible over the next few months.

I thought I read somewhere it was possible to squeeze anther 2 lanes out of the Gallipoli underpass? If not then definitely a big fail in its original design. Still there is plenty of room to widen the trench at this point.
