the $30M for the carpark frees up cash from the State to go into other things.

any extra cash this project gets is a good thing - getting rather excited about Rd 1 2014! (or is it 2013?)

Actually, it won't. The State Government is just going to funnel the freed up cash into other parts of the oval.
The funding releases about $27 million in State Government money earmarked for the wetland and 300-space carpark for other additions to the stadium likely to include a third big replay screen.

sorry, other things within the Oval and it's surrounds.

my point being an additional money from the feds/AFL will only make this project better.

a musical fountain? that is a different request!!!

A tram line I do agree with, especially one that connects up the WCH to the general populace.

Nathan wrote:My only concern with this is that the Federal Government is stumping up $30m for the car park under the guise of "revitalising the city of Adelaide", and yet a project like Victoria Square — which is far more about "revitalising Adelaide" than an underground carpark — can't get even a dollar from the Feds.
I know what you mean. Although I hate to be the cynic, it's pretty clear the federal government couldn't afford not to be part of this project going forward. It's going to the landmark development in Adelaide over the next couple years and now local Labor MPs can put their name on it in their electorate newsletters and other propaganda. Small price to pay, apparently.

I notice that the bitching has started here in SA over the PM "dudding" her 'home' state with the Feds finding only 5% of the total cost of the AdOval redevelopment, but approx 30% of the monies required for the new SCG Northern Stand. How much of the money for the SCG trust will go towards a much needed lick of paint for the SFS? I remember when we thought we were a chance for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, there were artists renderings showing an improved roof structure(extending the drip line) and other minor improvements.
Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

I don't think anyone from Adelaide should be complaining about the level of funding
Adelaide oval is going to receive from the federal government.

I am sure that the federal government contributed towards the upgrade of the western
stand and we also received $30 million for the re - development.

yep they did - $12M or so from memory - so in reality we have got 42M in funding.
