News & Discussion: General CBD Development
Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development
Meanwhile work has commenced on the SKM building on the corner of King William and Hindley Streets. This includes renovations to the ground floor and Level 1, featuring balcony dining on the upper level.
While the long vacant Adelaide Metro building on the corner of Currie and King William Street has been put on the market. This site has huge potential.

I think more could be done with this building... New awnings for a start, then perhaps clad the exterior, honestly one of the ugliest buildings in that part of the city...crawf wrote:Meanwhile work has commenced on the SKM building on the corner of King William and Hindley Streets. That would explain the removal of asbestos last year. I was only walking past the site last night thinking: "I hope they bulldoze this pile of shit someday". I might get my wish.crawf wrote:While the long vacant Adelaide Metro building on the corner of Currie and King William Street has been put on the market. This site has huge potential.

The Black Stump is getting naming rights and a roof sign. Not sure who the tenant is yet. Anyone know?

Prolly the State Government
Sorry, couldn't help myself.

The State Government already occupy a fair chunk of the Grenfell Centre.Jaymz wrote:Ben wrote:The Black Stump is getting naming rights and a roof sign. Not sure who the tenant is yet. Anyone know?

Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development
Yep exactly. And that's kinda been my running joke lately Crawf. The State Govt. seems to be occupying or taking up most of the office space these days. The private sector isn't exactly lining up to take it (unless of course they are being subsidised by the State Govt. in some way).

Infinitely better than what's there but it's got that 'marina' vibe about it.
Would look OK on a waterfront somewhere but could do better for South Terrace.

I work in 25 Grenfell and there's talk around the building about a law firm that's chasing floor space from other tenants in the upper floors.Ben wrote:The Black Stump is getting naming rights and a roof sign. Not sure who the tenant is yet. Anyone know?
It was Oracle signage before was it not? Heh, they have a fairly tiny office as far as I can tell.
AFAIK PIRSA, Funds SA and one of the ministers have 5 or 6 floors in the building. Out of 22? State govt "occupying most" office space feels like a bit of a throwaway line. I know DEWNR just moved in to the old ATO building on Waymouth, but vacated their offices at 100 Pirie (terrible building BTW).

How so? I've always thought it seemed like one of Adelaide's better streetscrapers.mshagg wrote:100 Pirie (terrible building BTW).

If mshagg is referring internally, then it is terrible. Used to do business when Origin was in there and there would always be a horrible smell in the building...Spurdo wrote:How so? Re: News & Discussion: General CBD Development
Sorry for the random excitement.... but we have not had a single building over 100m constructed for over 25 years and now possibly next year there is a real possibility we could have 7 in one year under construction. These are all high chances of going ahead. If even only 1 of these go ahead it will be the biggest change to the skyline since the 80's. 2017 will be massive!
