Well, fortunately Adelaide Airport is close to the CBD, and people can vote with their feet. If they like the airport hotel, they'll stay there. If they don't, it's a 15 minute or less ride to plenty of other hotels.
It doesn't affect us locals.

Agree Rev. The airport forecourt is the first impression visitors get of Adelaide. The whole area is drab and uninspiring, meanwhile, there is that beautiful gem of the old Vickers Vimy plane, an historic heirloom on display way off in the old carpark somewhere, where nobody sees it. Madness. It's an average looking building, not terrible, but certainly nothing special at all.
Meanwhile, take a look at Singapore as an example. Ok so Singapore is a major international hub, but why can't we have building design as good as what they have built?
We aren't Melbourne or Sydney, a major thriving metropolis with millions of people. In those cities, they can get away with average architecture because of sheer volume means there will be some gems in there.
Here the volume of buildings going up is small. So a shit building will make a big impact for quite a while.
Not just with the airport, but the City/CBD, there should be an expectation and demand of "world class" and innovative design.
Look at Bilbao, a tiny Spanish city, but with a world renowned Guggenheim museum that put them on the map.

In light of the new developments that have been built and will be built, this comment is so spot on. I am so here for development and change within this city but a lot of what has come through has been bad at best. Watpac wins Adelaide Airport Terminal Expansion project
Watpac Limited (‘Watpac’ or ‘Group’) today announced it has been appointed to deliver the Construction
Management contract for the Adelaide Airport Terminal Expansion, a significant portion of Adelaide Airport
Limited’s $165 million project.
The project will support forecast passenger growth to 2029 and will include major expansion and
refurbishment works of the existing terminal.
Watpac Limited Managing Director, Martin Monro, said the project award reinforced the Group’s capabilities
for delivering projects within live and sensitive environments.
“The Adelaide Airport Terminal Expansion project builds on our extensive aviation experience across Australia
and reaffirms our expertise in delivering complex projects in sensitive environments, which require meticulous
planning and stakeholder engagement to ensure minimal disruption to day-to-day operations,” Mr Monro
said.
“The Group is pleased to be working with Adelaide Airport Limited to deliver this important expansion to
ensure the airport’s ongoing role as one of South Australia’s most significant economic precincts.”
Watpac Construction South Australia State Manager, Tim Tape, said the team looked forward to once again
working with valued client Adelaide Airport Limited.
“Watpac has built a strong relationship with Adelaide Airport Limited having delivered the $76 million Adelaide
Airport Landside Infrastructure project in 2013, and undertaking the subsequent infrastructure services
corridor works and demolition of the original International Terminal Building,” Mr Tape said.
“The project will benefit from the extensive experience Watpac’s local South Australian team has gained by
delivering major projects throughout Adelaide, as well as our comprehensive network of local trade partners.
“We anticipate the workforce to reach 200 people at peak construction.”
The major upgrade works also include expanding the international inbound passenger processing and baggage
claim facility, international arrivals duty free and passenger and immigration facilities, retail tenancies and the
international gate lounge and duty free areas.
In addition, Watpac will deliver a new retail concourse with passenger facilities and amenities, and provision
for Virgin Australia’s domestic lounge and other international airline lounges.
Associated works include demolition of Aviation House, services relocations, landside works and airside
fencing, civil works, landscaping and construction of entry roadways.
Site works will commence next month and the project is anticipated to be completed in 2021.
Locally the Group is currently building residential project EI8HT South Esplanade in Adelaide’s prestigious
beachside community of Glenelg, and Kodo, the city’s tallest residential tower.
Nationally Watpac is delivering a number of major projects including the Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence
and North Queensland Stadium in Queensland, numerous Explosive Ordnance Logistics Reform Programs with
the Department of Defence across New South Wales and Victoria, and the recently announced Hornsby Kuring-gai
Hospital Stage 2 and Medical Imaging building project in New South Wales.
