Fair ehough. I thought he was talking about the apartments in the article Brando posted. Sorry if I mis-understood your post Professor.

That's fine. I did not make myself clear enough that I was talking about the Altitude development.

As for the other low-income units at the new bus station, if homeless and destitute people, some of who are pretty damn young, can get a roof over their head and some security in their lives for a while, maybe they have ab opportunity to make some changes that can improve their circumstance and futures. It's worth a try.

The Altitude apartment tower, 18 levels, is to be built on the Franklin street side of the Balfours site behind the existing building. The developers say they are starting to build in April.

Although the Altitude apartment building has had its plans submitted to the ACC, due to the fact that this project has been granted major project status, it still has to be approved by the state government DAC. As such, this coming Thursday at its meeting, the state government DAC, is expected to grant this building planning approval.

Some facts about the building:

*57.95m high

*18 levels as well as 2 levels of underground parking

*147 apartments and 116 carparks

*The vertical tower element will rise from a 6 level podium which will address an internal pedestrian, paved and landscaped walkway.

*the first 2 levels of the podium will consist of 2 level home-office residences, which will include shop-front style glazing at the ground level to provide activation of the internal walkway.

*There will also be a shop/cafe on the ground floor

*The internal walkway will be planted with mature (3m-4m) high jacaranda trees

Cheers Will, my stupidity. Killed too many brain cells over the weekend...

So am I reading this right, the 18 levels includes the podium? - or all up it will be 24 levels high? *wishful thinking I guess*

Doesn't matter if it's 100 levels it's still going to be 57.95m high ;)

The title of this thread says 5 towers of 62metres. Altitude is 57.95metres (posted by Will on February 25th.,) or by the plans I've seen at 58metres to top of roof (5 centimetres more)...trivial I know... :D Will the other 4 towers be the same or could those at the bus station be theoritically taller (maybe by one or two levels)? Would be nice though.

Cheers

The approved Altitude design is so much nicer than the original renders way back on the first page of this thread. We're yet to see any designs for the additional towers, yes?

I would suspect the other 4 towers would also be 58m. I base this prediction on the fact that the ACC has established a maximum height of 58m for the future tower sites. However future towers may include a plant room which would not be included in the 58m height. I guess we just have to wait and see.

The really nice part of this development will be when the Altitude building (plus the other 3 large apartment towers) start to make an impact on the skyline from mid year.

That will stretch the CBD well into the western area and make a real difference to the skyline.

I'll try and take a skyline pic of all cranes later when the smog clear. I have never seen it so bad. Looks like downtown beijing from my office. Much worse then it looks in this photo. Maybe the lack of rain?
