I've also heard from a semi reliable source Accor will be opening a hotel in Adelaide being either a Novotel or Sofitel. I say semi reliable as they told me it's going above the shopping centre on the Harris Scarfe site. Clearly not happening but maybe they mean the Hines site or this one? time will tell.
The hotel on the Hines site will be badged with Accor's Ibis brand.

Cheers

When I asked the devleoper directly about a year ago he said they have no intention of actually building this hotel and basically it was to increase the value of the land - that being said plans change, but with 3 hotels eitheir under construction or about to commence I don't know if we have the demand for this as well.

Sadly it looks like this one can be added to the list of "developers dreams, but never happened", with the property going up for sale.

Such a big shame.

Currie Street needs another 100m+ building, with lots of glass and curves. Similar to this proposal :(

They should fine developers who pull these stunts.

Perhaps DA's should be automatically revoked if the land is sold? That'll stop that little game in it's tracks.

I seem to remember there was going to be some new rules on the amount of time a DA can be delayed/renewed but I can't find the reference to it now.

I agree that it would be good if a DA was automatically revoked if the land is sold, but in reality that could easily be worked around. With these projects often a new company is created to limit the liability/risk and this company can easily pass to a new owner with the DA in place. If instead the DA had a natural end date (say two years) that couldn't be extended then only "real" projects would be put forward.
