Hindmarsh Square = Hines + Pruszinski! I remember going to the square in the 90's... never imagined it would look the way it does today.

Is it just me or does this guy sound like a drain? Seriously, stop looking for hand outs and do something about it yourself. Your not the only person to be put in this situation, but judging by his singing and dancing you'd think he was.
Maras joins Jade Monkey fight

Business2 Apr 12 @ 07:30am by Alice Higgins

FOUR city sites have been earmarked as a potential new home for popular live music venue The Jade Monkey.

Maras Group director Steve Maras last week joined the fight to help save the Twin St venue.

Mr Maras would not confirm locations but said they were all east of King William St.

“One is in an old style office building and the others are something with a bit of edge to it,” Mr Maras said.

“What we are looking for is a disused entertainment venue, a small bar, an old workshop or warehouse or something a bit edgy that can be converted quite readily into somewhere we can have a stage, a bar set-up and toilet facilities.”

The City Messenger reported last month that the popular live music venue was being forced out of the 131-year-old bluestone building in October to make way for a new 17-storey hotel worth $65 million.

Plans for the hotel were this month approved by the State Government’s Development Assessment Commission.

Mr Maras was working to find a new home for the venue in his role with Renew Adelaide - a not-for-profit project which worked to revitalise under-utilised or empty buildings.

The Jade Monkey owner Zac Coligan said he had looked at a few sites but none were suitable.

Mr Coligan also said he had not heard from Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood who vowed to help The Jade Monkey find a new home.

“I have not heard from him since. He said he was going to help us relocate,” Mr Coligan said.

Mr Yarwood said council staff had been “actively involved” in trying to find The Jade Monkey a new home.

“There is one of me and 800 staff so it is not something I can personally do myself but I understand council staff have met with State Government staff and they have been dealing directly with Zac,” Mr Yarwood said.

That old club 199 building on North Terrace instantly comes to mind.

Demolition Sale on now at $O Well Discounts store (next to former Optus shop).
Derringers & Clown Around will be relocating somewhere.

The cheap shop closed last week. Sooner this corner is demolished the better. it's an eyesore at the moment. I think there is still the music store, costume shop and Jive left.

Article in todays business journal about Hines property. The operator of the hotel will be announced next month with construction to follow shortly after in Sep/Oct. They are also working on another project - apartments. Did not divulge any further information on this as yet but wouldn't be surprised if it was designed by Pruszinski same as Conservatory, Crowne, 20 hindmarsh and this hotel.

Wow, another Hines project coming to fruition here. They should rename the square 'Hinesmarsh Square'

Isn't Hines behind the 108m Flinders Street apartment tower project?

No. Datong is the developer behind 123 Flinders Street.

Thanks Will.

Mr Hines certainly is making his mark on the Hindmarsh Square precinct. Let's hope his next apartment tower project is a biggie like 123 Flinders!

We'd have a civil war in Adelaide. NIMBY's would converge from every corner of the state.

I doubt the apartment proposal would be built on Hindmarsh Square, where would it go?

I'm glad to hear the hotel proposal is progressing well, I can't wait for that hideous mess on Grenfell Street to be demolished.
