Marking the official commencement of construction, the first sod has been turned at Kodo apartments: a $100 million, 30-storey development on Angas Street in the Adelaide CBD. The project is expected to become an urban catalyst for inner-city design in Adelaide, setting a new benchmark in vertical living.
Developed by Flagship Property Holdings, Kodo has been designed by Woods Bagot and is being built by leading Australian construction company Watpac. South Australian Deputy Premier John Rau was on hand for the official ground breaking on Wednesday April 19.
Woods Bagot Principal Peter Miglis said "The commencement of construction marks the next exciting chapter of this project's journey. Soon we will see Kodo rise confidently and further frame Victoria Square as one of Adelaide's most significant civic spaces."
Introducing connections for pedestrians and cyclists, in the form of laneways and an urban sanctuary, the new building will provide a finer grain to the neighbourhood block and an opportunity for increased activation of pedestrian movements.
Located at 29 Angas Street near Victoria Square, Kodo will include a four-level podium from ground level, which will incorporate car parking, bicycle parks and residential apartments. On the top floor of the podium, an exclusive resident sky garden will be established, with landscaped entertaining and recreation areas, as well as surrounding apartments with mezzanine floors and generous private terraces. Additional one, two and three bedroom apartments will then rise up another 26 levels, offering sweeping views towards the Adelaide Hills and coastline.
Woods Bagot Director Thomas Masullo, Principal Stuart Uren and Project Professional Laura Haywood were on site with Flagship Property Holdings on the day.
Thomas said that Woods Bagot was pleased to be involved in the project. “To be associated with the next generation of residential product in the CBD is a great source of pride. Kodo will be Adelaide’s tallest residential project in construction in one of the most sought after locations adjacent Adelaide’s central market.”
Steve Wise, CEO of Flagship, said the delivery of Kodo will add further vibrancy to the city CBD and Victoria Square precinct.
“We’ve always said that Kodo will become an iconic feature on the Adelaide skyline, and now it’s time to deliver. Having assembled an outstanding project team which has put in an enormous amount of work, it’s great to reach this point of the project and see the builders on site and construction underway."
The project is expected to complete in late 2018.
