Beer Garden
Re: Beer Garden
thanks. I enjoyed the video. Lots of lessons learned from what's happened and still happening in Melbourne & Sydney. Key being not to clone elsewhere but leverage your assets.

Re: Beer Garden
Thanks for posting. Yes it is 3 years old, but much of what he saying has started to happen ie the burst of small bars, Adel Oval bringing in people to the city, more inner city housing such as Bowden and the many CBD apartment blocks currently being constructed and completed over past few yearsobituary resider wrote:Hi all, hopefully this is the right place to share this video - its by an urban designer who had a lot to do with kick starting Melbourne lane-way revival. He talks about the 'fine grain' of cities and why lane-ways are not necessarily the answer for Sydney (and Adelaide) and has a fantastic discussion about what Adelaide might want to aim for as well. I found it really enjoyable! It is 3 years old but still very relevant.

The Port Adelaide Football Club is thrilled to launch its bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup* following recent reports the event is probably going to be up for grabs given all the issues at FIFA...
As a proud, long-established football club, we have the means and ability to bring about a truly spectacular display of the rest of the world’s game right in the heart of South Australia – Port Adelaide.
That’s right, Port Adelaide is the undisputed hub of activity in the only part of Australia not to be settled by British convicts.
In doing so, we’ll bring the heart of Port Adelaide - primarily consisting of a lighthouse, several open and long-defunct hotels, a blood bank, council chambers, two shopping centres and heritage-listed woolstores - to life.
We’re a friendly city with friendly people. Our local footy club in Port Adelaide is pretty popular and the ideal place to host such an event.

Alberton Oval is the largest venue in Port Adelaide and well-equipped to host all games with its picturesque heritage grandstands and copious bar facilities around the ground - it’s got something for all 14,000 fans it is able to hold.
At 180m long and 130m wide, Alberton is actually an oval, but we think it would be a welcome change for international soccer to play with a little bit more space to run around.
We also envisage the goals will look something like this:
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Would be too low a population to support something like that!Wayno wrote:Port Adelaide FC bid for 2022 FIFA World Cup

It's a joke by the club dude. There was talk the other week that Qatar may lose it and it will be up for grabs again. Talk that's intensified this week not just for the Qatar WC but the Russia WC.The Scooter Guy wrote: Would be too low a population to support something like that!

Do you remember Talon Tough Tools?
I suspect the company is out of business, hence the unavailability of new products at Bunnings, Masters, Stratco, M10, etc.

Hey guys, anyone here know the ins and outs of university scholarships? My daughter is planning to do a BA degree at Adelaide Uni next year, and we're not sure where to start...

Re: Beer Garden
Education is a big winner for Adelaide and SA.
Jobs, tourism, adding a much needed cosmopolitan vibe to the city, a catalyst for developing infrastructure eg public transport, new and improved education facilities and centres of innovation and high reputation, student apartments and enhanced public facilities, free intra-city bus and tram and sensible PT concessions, cementing international relations and adding business opportunities via graduates - just some of the benefits of attracting international students.
International education is now a billion-dollar industry for South Australia, making it our biggest service export – even eclipsing tourism.

International education is now a billion-dollar industry for South Australia, making it our biggest service export – even eclipsing tourism.
Official figures show that we passed the magic barrier last year on the back of an 8.5% rise in the number of students enrolled in the State’s universities, vocational training institutions and schools.
And there’s increasing diversity. The more than 30,000 international students enrolled in South Australia this year come from 125 different countries. China leads the way, but you’ll also hear voices and ideas from nations as diverse as Kenya, Saudi Arabia and the US. South American students are more and more common, with Brazil in particular showing strong growth.
StudyAdelaide chief executive Karyn Kent believes Adelaide’s growing reputation as a great city (including being ranked the fifth most liveable in the world by the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Liveability Index) has added an extra marketing dimension to its already strong academic credentials.
“Everyone in Adelaide knows it is one of the best places to live, but making those most liveable lists certainly helps us sell the city to students overseas."
“Adelaide is attractive to international students because of its accessibility, affordability and its reputation for safety.
Inside South Australia:There has been a strong rise in recent years in the number of students coming to Adelaide to complete high school, with around 1600 enrolled in different schools this year. A survey completed last year shows that school-age students – and their parents – are attracted by Adelaide’s reputation for being safe, clean and friendly, and for having a lower cost of living than other parts of Australia.
They also relate to Rundle Mall, and see it as the heart of the CBD. “Every single focus group participant in the study said that they visited Rundle Mall within the first week of their arrival in Adelaide.”

I'm sure the word has got around that there is currently a large fire outside of the Grand Chancellor Hotel, just off Hindley and Leigh Streets.
