15 minutes each way with a view to make it 6 an hour each way by the end of the decade

Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw
Is that a constraint of track speed, rolling stock or Adelaide being a terminating station? (or all of the above?). One of the things that has really impressed me in Perth is the peak hour frequency on their North-South line. I've seen 2-5 minute frequency which is the kind of frequency you would expect on a major city's subway. Even off peak every 15 minutes is the norm. It allows you to rely on the rail system without having to check on timetables which is liberating.jase111 wrote:15 minutes each way with a view to make it 6 an hour each way by the end of the decade

This is one of the things I love about the trains every time I'm in Tokyo. Absolutely no need to check a timetable, and if you just miss a train or it's too full to get on, who cares, another one will be there in 2–3 minutes.JAKJ wrote:It allows you to rely on the rail system without having to check on timetables which is liberating.

I thought they would have updated the Noarlunga Station? It still looks pretty retro!
"SA GOING ALL THE WAY".
Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw
Wouldn't it be cool if eventually they built the shopping centre out over the train station to make it park of the complex.

There is a masterplan for Noarlunga Centre which includes making the station essentially underground. http://www.onkaparingacity.com/onka/cou ... opment.jsp

Thank you. I had no idea of this. A Great read (as a nearby resident at least).Raider wrote:There is a masterplan for Noarlunga Centre which includes making the station essentially underground. http://www.onkaparingacity.com/onka/cou ... opment.jsp
Also good to see that there IS a plan for DPTI to eventually duplicate Beach Road
Looking forward to a free-flowing Adelaide!
Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw
I looks great! It would completely revitalise the shoddy Colonnades area and should be prioritised over other outer suburban developments down south, provided it was built to a decent quality with attractive public areas and proper landscaping, not just beds of dead native grass, and vast areas of graffiti attracting concrete....oh and provided the council maintains it all properly.
Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw
Not sure how they'll manage that. It takes a good 6 minutes to get from the junction to Tonsley, giving the train driver a total of 3 minutes to change ends. Something's not right...

In the brochure http://www.infrastructure.sa.gov.au/__d ... ochure.pdf, on the last page it says a crossing loop at the new Clovelly Park station. It would be a lot cheaper to build a single platform then two. The loop probably will slow down services though.
Re: U/C: Electrification & Upgrade of the Adelaide Rail Netw
Going by the flythrough, this s a bit of a let down. It is great the tonsley line is remaining open and being upgraded, but I don't get the point of the bus interchange being across Sturt road from the Tonsley station. If the point is to have commuters transferring from bus to train, it makes no sense for people to get off a bus, wait in the elements for the pedestrian lights to change, and walk to the station. I thought the bus interchange was to be directly adjacent to the station. A properly designed interchange would have commuters stepping off the bus under cover and almost directly on to the platform.

Maybe doing it on the cheap now to see how the Tonsley redevelopment goes - maybe turn Clovelly Park into the future interchange point maybe the terminus of line and turn the rail line from the new Flinders Drive and Sturt Road intersection into a bus only corridor then build a second Clovelly Park platform. Maybe the total opposite saving money to extend the line to South Road and make a proper interchange point where Sturt Road is separated from the railway.

If indeed they are intending the interchange to be .. an interchange, then you're completely right. Transferring services is enough of a perceived delay in passengers' minds, without the further perceived delays of a longish walk out of shelter, and I bet none of the services are timed so that passengers can change from one to the other.claybro wrote:Going by the flythrough, this s a bit of a let down.
