Whilst I reckon a double dissolution may be on the cards it would be a big call by the new Government. I really hope they fnid a way to work with a revised Senate as the last thing SA needs is the uncertainty that we face with a local election early next year and a grid-locked Fed Government moving towards another election mid-year - would result in absolutely nothing happening for almost another 12 months and that will kill the economy locally.

I don't think Abbott will go ahead with a double dissolution. He is better off negotiating with the (likely) 4 / 5 right-of-centre leaning independents, than to call a double dissolution, and risk dealing with even more independents as the quotas for Senate election are halved in a double-dissolution. This would be very risky, which if you think about the minor parties that have got in this time around, think about those who'll get in (assuming that the minor parties / others) vote remains at the same level.

Interesting article in ABC News On Line regarding Bob Day, new senator from South Australia:
..... With a background as a home builder, Mr Day long has campaigned on the issue of declining housing affordability.
He is an opponent of urban growth boundaries for cities and of urban consolidation. .....
cheers,

Of course he's against urban growth boundaries and urban consolidation. His company, Homestead Homes, relies completely on low density suburbia.

I've been roundly bagging TA recently - and quite rightly IMO.

However this actually sounds like a decent move:
Downer, Santoro to consider Liberal Party links amid push for lobbying code of conduct
Two federal Liberal Party vice-presidents are considering their future roles given proposed new rules about the influence of lobbyists. Earlier this week Tony Abbott confirmed he wanted to change the rules for lobbyists to "try to ensure that there are no conflicts of interest, real or apparent". "I'm determined to ensure that you can either be a powerbroker or a lobbyist, but you can't be both," he said...

It is a good plan. The combination of government by political apparatchiks of all parties, influenced by lobbyists who are ex-apparatchiks, all living and working in the enclave of the political class that is Canberra is not a recipe for good government. Whether you can beat the system and implement the move is another matter. Good luck to them.

"Morgan poll" no surprise but labor would have already won an election if held last weekend 51.5% to Liberals 48.5%.

What a shambles of a government, education funding back flips, and then back flips on back flips, rail funding cuts to committed projects.
Internal Liberal disagreements at ministerial level over the car industry and senior ministers leaking stories to the ABC about Holden's future in direct conflict with their own minister.
They told us for three years what a disaster the economy was and our huge debt needed urgent action, get elected and do nothing except want to raise the debt ceiling from $350b to $1trillion and then back flip on that to do a deal with the greens to have no debt limit at all.
The boats are still coming (3 this week) " but in secret", shambles of diplomacy with Indonesia and now China and then another back flip to support Israel building houses in Palestinian territory, then raids on Australian East Timor layers offices.
They send public servants to the world climate change conference when other countries are represented by ministers or heads of state, and make us look like dicks as other countries reported Australia obviously acted as a "spoiler" to prevent agreements being made. We have Senior coalition members rebelling in parliament about lack of access to their own PM's office and centralised control, back flips of pre-election promised support for the NT. Then there was the back flip on the "we are open to business" policy by rejecting the grain corp take over by US investors.
The L plates on this government are making us all look like dicks! Roll on a double disillusion.

(Edit)oops 4 boat this week not three!

More Abbott government shambles!
Not only content to back flip and stuff up on Education policy last week, we have the Education minister Christopher Pyne criticising Holden's investment strategy on the radio this morning in direct conflict with his own government's industry minister.
Not content with his ministers leaking to the ABC last night and Pyne's radio rant this morning, this afternoon we have the prime minister, demanding GM announce a decision and confirming his government was not going to give them a cent more. What happened to last weeks policy of the industry assistance being based on the productivity commission report due next year?
What a shambles!

I know it's been said before (by Monotone, Crawf or Claybro) but, I gotta ask again. Honestly Dog, do you work for Labor?

You posted a lot of political crap a few months back and then just vanished the second the elections were run. A lot of your posts have now been deleted and replaced by full stops and other things that hide what you wrote? I don't get it?

Wrong but where I work is immaterial, Liberal infighting, back flips, leaks, lack of diplomacy, secrecy over boat arrivals and the latest Morgan poll putting Labor back in front are all facts.
Bring on a carbon tax double disillusion and this inept shambles of a government might be the shortest in history.

Whereas party infighting, back flips, leaks, lack of diplomacy & terrible polling were nowhere to be seen under federal Labor

Precisely that's why they lost government!

While there was an ego lead Labor leadership war, I can't recall such appalling international diplomatic gaffs, in the first 100 days we have simultaneously fallen out with China our largest trading partner, Indonesia our most populous neighbour, and New Guinea and East Timor our nearest neighbours. We also have to remember Labor was a minority government, Abbott's mob has full control of the lower house and their own policies and promises, but still back flipping and contradicting themselves, it's a real shambles.

I don't take the Indonesia stuff to seriously.

From what it looks Tony well end up strengthening the relationship once Indonesia get over the embarrassment of allowing australia to tap so many high ranking officials phones.

Lets face it is their sore ego that's driving this nothing else.
