They forgot to put nearby Luminesque in that render. It would be good to see what they look like side-by-side. ;)

Don't understand what's going on in that render. The facade isn't glass it looks to be a feature? But in blue ?

Surely that existing building is not heritage listed? Why would they keep that façade?
Cos it's a cool facade!

No you're right it probably isn't heritage listed, but it is nice to see them showing a bit more creativity and not just mindlessly demolishing what is a pretty nice art deco building. I think the way they have incorporated it looks great and will work well at street level.

Well noted! My only suggestion would be to set the building back a little, otherwise the facade gets washed away in the building above (a bit like the Quest on KWS).

I'm ambivalent towards the Quest KWS integration. It doesn't look terrible or anything but by the same token you could walk past it 1000 times and not even realise they have done it. I like your idea of setting the building back, but even if they don't end up doing that the contrast between the two styles will make it much more of a stand out than Quest.

Integration of the art deco building is woeful. Needs a total redesign.

Agreed.

I'd love to see the former design revived again. That was an absolute sexy stunner.

crawf, the original dark glass design was OK, but the that rendering in the Axiom brochure is more in line with Quest's style. Nothing special obviously, but also more realistic. Hopefully the facade on Currie street is not all bare, concrete or cladded in panels. Want to see glass and windows. A height of 100 metres will complement the Sofitel down the road. The art deco building's features will also be complemented by a well-designed tower, that's if the developer wants to retain the original building, of course. Setting the tower back will make the tower less imposing on the streetscape and on the original building, but if the developer wants to use most of the site there needs to be contrast between the two or else the facade will be lost. In this case colours and lines (or the lack of) are important.

Cheers

P.S. In the design mentioned by crawf the art deco building is no longer. Very bland to say the least.

Late response, but where is anything mentioned about Quest?. I haven't seen anything relating to any accommodation brand.

This property is owned by a company with a sole director whose address is in Singapore. It was purchased in May 2016.

This render is from the LOUCAS ZAHOS website. Not sure if it is meant to be linked to this site or one in New Delhi, as they have it as 62 Curry Street!

That’s a very old render. Before even the last hotel proposal. (See page 1).

You wonder why they still have it on their website!
