I hope they're not complaining about the affordable housing components being eliminated, because I thought it was them whining about "ghettos" that got it canned in the first place.

These people are complaining about the removal of the affordable housing component. I suspect, that had the opposite happened, they would also be whinging about "ghettos" in 'their' village. They are also complaining about the increase in parking. Had the opposite happened and parking spaces in the development were reduced, these people would be whinging about the increased use of 'their' street parking spaces. These people are complaining about the increase in height to accommodate energy efficiency infrastructure. Had the opposite happened, and the developers had reduced the green initiatives, these people would be complaining about the lack of green features.
In reality these people will grasp at anything to have a whinge.
All they want is for there to be no change in 'their village'.

My answer to this has, and will always be one of
.......if you don't want to live near a highrise, then
why are you living in a CBD! Just absurd.

From this week... lots of work happening on the Stage 1 area, rubble is on Stage 2 area. I like this photo because virtually everything except the ex-Optus building wasn't there five or six years ago.

Yes, stage 2 is pretty much guaranteed to go ahead as most of the building will be hotel rooms and Sheraton have been secured as the operator. However I don't think they have approval now that it has been extended to 15 levels.

Correct, this is a part of the Starwood Hotels group and will operate as an 'aloft' hotel. Perfect for the area as they're a real modern and funky design.
Due to open Oct 2017.
Check out aloft Bangkok or the design for the Pitt St due to open next year.

I think we're gonna have a hotel oversupply by 2017/18. I've lost track of the number of proposals ... maybe 5 or 6 now?
