have we ever tried to emulate new york at all?

I'd suggest the vast majority of people wouldn't even pick it up as a NY reference :?

Since we have neither of an uptown nor a downtown, we don't really have a spot in between to call midtown.

To be fair, Daniela did put it in scare quotes.

I'd prefer they went with SoPi (South of Pirie)

Well we already have a West End and an East End. I think that's a London thing, not New York? Still, its not really Australian culture or practice to have 'districts' within our cities and suburbs.

Demolition is progressing with most of the insides ripped out of the synagogue place buildings.

It looks like they might be upgrading the Frome street building to house a display suite?

The irony: That building hasn't seen a lick of paint in decades.

I loved that little building and its signage.

All for the greater good I guess.

So did I. Sad to see it go, but as you say, all for the greater good.

Yay. Can't wait to see the G&G building torn down to make way for that horrible Globe Mark 2 student apartment tower. Such a shame they removed G&G's heritage listing a few years ago. Can't say I'm looking forward to watching this one go up at all.

I guess the good news is that this developer moves fast, so hopefully that is also the case for the second stage.

While sad, the G&G building had been chopped in half and left to fester. It was a ruin.

Yeah, but I still think it could have easily been restored and incorporated as part of a new development. It would be a lot less disappointing to see it go if the current proposal wasn't so average. At least the speed with which they have progressed gives me some confidence about stage 2.
