The 2015 Schutzenfest is moving to Rymill Park.

The South Australian German Association has announced plans for a Schützenfest make-over in 2015. Taking over Rymill Park from Friday January 30 to Sunday February 1, next year’s Schützenfest will pre-game Adelaide’s festival season with a new location, new atmosphere and new image.

Often drawing crowds of over 25,000 people, SA’s foremost celebration of German culture is the largest ethnic festival in the southern hemisphere. To reflect its traditional origins, organisers want to create a ‘vintage German town fair’ atmosphere for the 2015 festival, promising “a few creative modern twists” along the way.

Possibly looking to distance the event from the ‘beer and sunstroke’ image it’s developed in recent years, Schützenfest #52 will be a more family-friendly affair during the day. Featuring interactive theatrical entertainment plus a full program of children’s activities, the SA German Association hopes to entice a new generation of daytime attendees before the party atmosphere kicks in after dark.

Schützenfest runs from Friday January 30 to Sunday February 1 2015 in Rymill Park.

Spirited - Free Event by Espionage Pop Up Gallery at the beautiful Himeji Gardens.

The highly popular Espionage Gallery in Adelaide was forced to close its doors after financial difficulties, but it has now re-incarnated itself as a pop up gallery.

... "The Himeji Japanese Gardens on South Terrace provide the perfect atmosphere to host a studio Ghibli-inspired event. It's like walking into an anime set...

This free event will be day of fun and family entertainment. It takes place on Saturday July 26 from 10am to 5pm, and offers a chance to experience Espionage Gallery in its new form as a creative pop up gallery. Get a taste of Japan, then fossick the food trucks for some fun food.

2017 World Hapkido Federation Championships and Seminar

The city of Adelaide, Australia has secured the A$5 million 2017 World Hapkido Federation Championships and Seminar, expected to be held in May.

The news was announced by Leon Bignell MP, minister for recreation and sport and tourism, at the welcome cocktail party for the Adelaide Convention Bureau (ACB)’s Destination South Australia (Destination SA)—a showcase event promoting Adelaide to the business events sector.

ACB hosted a delegation from Korea and Germany representing the World Hapkido Martial Arts Federation. The delegation enjoyed a tour of the city, including site inspections at a number of potential venues.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better way to start Destination SA. The confirmation of this event was a fantastic way to launch our four day showcase,” says Damien Kitto, ACB CEO.

The 2017 World Hapkido Championships and Seminar will involve over 2,500 participants, of which 2,000 will be international competitors and delegates. It is expected to create 50 jobs.

Adelaide to host 15th Australian Masters Games

The Adelaide Convention Centre (ACC) will play host to the Games Village for the 15th Australian Masters Games when the event comes to Adelaide from October 3 - 10, 2015.

The Village will incorporate the registration and accreditation centre, games expo help desks, medal engraving and merchandise store. It will also host the Games entertainment program including the Opening and Closing Ceremonies expected to attract a combined 6,500 participants. The Centre will also host a few of the Games’ events.

ACC chief executive Alec Gilbert said hosting the Games Village will provide a unique opportunity to showcase the Centre to a national and international audience.

“Sixty per cent of Games visitors will be from outside of South Australia,” said Mr Gilbert.

“It will add to the vibrancy of Adelaide’s burgeoning Riverbank and highlight the key role the Centre plays being at the heart of the city’s new entertainment, cultural and business precinct.

“We’re aiming to turn all 10,000 participants into ambassadors for the Adelaide Convention Centre by creating a first class Games Village and helping to make the 15th Australian Masters Games memorable for everyone involved.”

The Australian Masters Games is the largest multi-sport event in Australia and will feature eight days of competition across an expected more than 60 sports.

Australian Masters Games organising committee advisory board chair Chris Dittmar said the Games Village will provide the perfect central meeting point for the Games, and assist in encouraging the social atmosphere of the mass participation event.

“The Games Village will not just provide the practicality of a central meeting and administration point, but will also help encourage the social atmosphere that is the spirit of the Australian Masters Games,” Dittmar said.

“We could not think of a better place to host the Games Village than the Adelaide Convention Centre, it’s close to public transport and is amongst the action of the CBD.”

Adelaide Beer and BBQ Festival at the Showgrounds, July 10-12 for lovers of Craft beer and Cider

Adelaide Icon, Coopers Brewery, Backs Inaugural Craft Beer Festival

Coopers Brewery is continuing its support for the growing craft beer sector through its sponsorship of the first-ever Adelaide Beer & BBQ Festival this month.

The festival will be held over three days from July 10-12 in the historic Brick Cattle Pavilion and Lawns at the Adelaide Showground. More than 30 South Australian, Australian and international craft beer and cider makers will be showcased along with some of the state’s best restaurants and chefs.

Coopers National Sales and Marketing Director, Mr Cam Pearce, said that as the craft beer sector had grown, Coopers had grown with it. “Thomas Cooper was the original craft brewer, 153 years ago,” Mr Pearce said.
“Coopers has strong credentials as a craft brewer and has been doing it for longer than most.”

Coopers Brewery will showcase its portfolio of ales as well as the Thomas Cooper range. The Royal Adelaide Beer and Cider Awards will be presented live at the festival on Friday evening. Medal winners will be exhibiting their award winning beers and ciders, meaning festival-goers will be able to sample them before anyone else.

Mr Pearce said Coopers was proud to be partnering with the festival in recognition of Australia’s beer and cider industry. “The Adelaide Beer & BBQ Festival is happening in our own backyard, so we see it as our responsibility to help make sure it’s a success,” Mr Pearce said.
