Awful in every way. Destroys a heritage site, blocks off another, encroaches badly on one of the best areas of the parklands, and looks as subtle as a giant brick. They even made the already terrible carpark proposal even worse.

I can't really say many positive things about this from a development perspective. Really disappointing.
The removal of state heritage items is nothing short of controversial. The car park looks horrendous. Transport access doesn't look great, I can't see an additional tram stop that is very much needed if this is to go ahead.

Also now at the top end of the range of the $/sqm of all hospital costs around the world.

Thinking a little outside the box - from a national security perspective, is it a good idea to have the two hopsitals so close together?
I.e. if we are bombed, chemical/biological attack or otherwise. Looks like a lot of eggs in the one basket.

If this happens, it’s just an astounding precedent. The parklands and their heritage status may as well be written off.

Absolutely shocking. The public outcry will force them to go look for another site.

There isn't really much point in co-locating the two hospitals unless there is an actual physical connection between them. If a patient is required to be transported by ambulance from one hospital to the other it really doesn't matter that much whether the hospital is 300 metres down the road or 3 kilometres away at North Adelaide.
I take the point that eventually the hospitals may need to expand and end up meeting the middle, but why not start by genuinely co-locating them and then expand west and deal with the tricky heritage issue if and when the need arises.

Yeah, this is bad.
A colossal monolith on a really important piece of local history and parkland.
It's even worse than the previous proposed site, and that was pretty poor for the reasons Labor listed.
Surely there won't be a second rethink on this? We can all hope...

With their two City West options - they say the cost of buying the Adelaide Day Surgery and CMAX buildings is prohibitive and that their alternate option to avoid that would necessitate closing off Hindley St. Could they not have considered a third option (in blue) that avoids those two buildings and extends east over Gray St to Liverpool St?
They also cite the time and access issues between it and the RAH, but surely that's exactly the same as the site they've chosen?
Option 3a
Option 3b
Alternative they didn't consider

I wonder if it will mean a new tram stop in between RAH and the Thebarton one.
