You guys are echoing my thoughts over and over - disgusted at the loss of the theatre facade - esp when replaced by the proposed dcevelopment - you see that kind of thing everywhere - the more unique feel of the theatre lost forever. Getting very annoyed :wallbash:

Loss of Magic Mountain = epic fail
New shopping centre at the Bay = epic fail (whose idea was it to have the lovely view of the carpark as the entrance the Jetty Road)
Loss of Art Deco Cinema = epic fail

One word: TAPLIN

Also is proposing the underwhelming 3 level development opposite mosley square.

He really has no vision and just want to make a quick buck.

Holdfast Bay council haven't helped. There was supposed to be a new cinema on Moseley Square where the arcade to the Beach-house is. The council knocked it back and forced the scaled down two story shops we have now.

Definately. The original proposal for the Bay Junction shopping centre was also much more inspiring, but the local council couldn't handle a 5-level 'high-rise' and rejected it.

I plan to go back tomorrow evening after work to see if they hopefully uncover what is left of the old "Ozone" sign. Wasn't even aware that was still hiding there after all these years...

Anyone got any idea why the Taplin development on corner Jetty Rd/Colleys Tce would be replacing all the awings at this stage? I would have thought the entire thing was coming down soon anyway to make way for the new development. Seems crazy to replace awnings at this stage of the game?

Hopefully they are rethinking it. 3 levels in that location is ridiculous. I noticed the signage was taken down about a month or so ago.

Be nice if they were rethinking. However, now wondering whether they are actually going to use the current foundations instead of complete rebuild? H'm'm - remind me not to buy an apartment on the top level!!!
