That really does not do justice for the buildings around it.

Different from the renders that wouldn't be a first .... I reserve judgement until it's handed over

Some news about the dining offerings in the new hotel. To be "overseen" by the same couple who ran Urban Bistro...
Back to the future for Bethany
David Washington | 11 June 2014

For 11 years, chefs Bethany Finn and Spencer Cole kept their Rose Park restaurant, Urban Bistro, near the top of any list of Adelaide’s best dining experiences.

But the exacting, and physically and financially demanding, work of running a fine-dining restaurant became too much. After trying hard to sell the business, the couple decided in late 2012 to shut up shop, to the dismay of the bistro’s regular customers.

After some low-profile gigs, Finn – who was the Hilton’s executive chef 14 years ago in the glory days of Cheong Liew and the Grange – is making a return to Adelaide’s dining scene, overseeing the kitchens at the Mayfair Hotel.

...

As for the 170-room Mayfair, Finn says there will be a ground-floor cafe, a restaurant and a banquet space for functions.

The final concepts are still under wraps, but Finn says the food will go well beyond the regular hotel offerings. She wants the Mayfair to become a dining destination in its own right.

Perhaps they still have some sort of window treatments to apply which will complete the effect and make it look like the render?

If not I agree it looks tacky and disappointing.

At least it's an original design though and not just another beige / glass box.

The bits that are meant to be black are a very definite shade of grey, and the top 2/3 of the building looks finished. There are also a lot fewer windows than are in the render.

Personally, I'd prefer the beige box. I'd rather have bland design over bad design.

Does anyone know when the lanes turning from and onto Hindley St are going to be back in action? As someone who drives from Hindley St, south onto King William St, this is a pain in the ass.

At least there wont be any accommodation shortages in Adelaide for the next few years! This, Quest, Ibis all within 6 months... Am I forgetting anything?

Now, we gotta pull more people to the City. The AFL is great for this, being so close.

The next step surely is giving them reasons to stay for the weekend. We need more attractions. Pushbutton? Any ideas? :P

An illuminated "Mayfair Hotel" sign has been installed on the western side of the building. Looks quite stylish.

But supporters of the development had mocked users of the bus stop prior to its removal, on a web forum run by Sensational Adelaide which promotes development debate in the CBD.
