[COM] Adelaide Oval Redevelopment
[COM] Re: U/C: Adelaide Oval Redevelopment | 53,500 | $545m
An AFL media centre would have to be on a wing rather than behind the goals...

Indeed. The benches were only temporary.Brucetiki wrote: I would suspect so. There would be no way the old Adelaide Oval interchange benches would be anywhere near AFL standard.

Is there a copy of the plans available online?

I think the area cleared in front of the members dining room is for wheelchair/disabled viewing.

Nope. There's wheelchair seating in various other spots. The area in question seats 50+ people and is considered a prime viewing area. Doubt the SACA would have agreed to a media centre either. The plot thickens!how good is he wrote:I think the area cleared in front of the members dining room is for wheelchair/disabled viewing.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Noticed the back of the top tier of the red seats section of the Western Stand is getting some work done as well - I suspect that's for the football media centre.
As for the seats in front of the dining room, perhaps that's going to be a premium viewing area. Perhaps it's where the Stadium Club ticket holders will be sitting (though I don't think that area has 1000 seats, unless they doing to do some more retrofitting around there).

It's looking good.
Does anyone know the new dimensions of the playing surface?

I emailed SACA about the media centre & seating in front of dining room. In summary:
Seating in front of dining room: being reconfiguring to suit both footy & cricket seasons. During cricket season this section will continue to be used by 50yr SACA veteran members. During footy season will be used by VIP folk.
Media centre: will be positioned above the dining room towards back of stand, where bay 402-404 seating currently exists.

Surprisingly, that seems like a very difficult question to answer (officially). But, according to here and here, it seems like we'll be looking at approx 134m wide by 180m long (fence to fence).TooFar wrote:Does anyone know the new dimensions of the playing surface?
That's compared to Footy Park (145 x 177), MCG (148 x 174) and Docklands (129 x 160).
I seem to recall reading that the ground was being made slightly wider and shorter, as well as the pockets being chopped off a bit so they weren't quite as 'deep'. In essence, making the shape of the ground more of a true oval.
It's = it is; its = everything else.
You're = you are; your = belongs to.
Than = comparative ("bigger than"); then = next.

That's interesting, I always thought the MCG was a circular playing field - or is that only for cricket?Maximus wrote:Surprisingly, that seems like a very difficult question to answer (officially). Those are the fence-to-fence dimensions I've quoted. So, given that cricket at the MCG is played across the ground, and the rope for the square boundaries is usually in quite a long way from the fence, then yes I'd say for cricket it would probably be roughly circular.rhino wrote:That's interesting, I always thought the MCG was a circular playing field - or is that only for cricket?

It was stated at the members meetings when the oval was proposed that the oval will be very similar in size to Ethiad.Maximus wrote:Surprisingly, that seems like a very difficult question to answer (officially).
