Same thoughts here. So much untapped potential for that site.

3 levels is very short for that kind of a corner site fronting one of what is probably the city's most popular public space after Rundle Mall. 5 levels would be more acceptable for the site, it's still pretty short but makes the area look and feel a lot more dense than something slightly taller than a 2 story townhouse

I say, fuck it! and go the whole hog - 12-15 floors (or whatever the maximum height limit Glenelg permits) - pretty sure the airport enforces the limit, not the council, due to proximity to runway.

Nope - 3 levels was the approval (sorry to disappoint) Taplins won't go higher than that. However, looking at it again this morning - very much doubt Taplins are proceeding. Can't see any indication of demolition of corner at this stage - although a couple of the smaller shops are vacated and gutted - main traders still in place and another new 'Leased' sign gone up in shop on corner of Durham St and Jetty Rd. Would reckon the general mass vacating rates of Jetty Rd traders might have something to do with the situation - that and the fact that other developments in very close proximity are proving difficult to sell.

Aren't.

Some kind of refurb/ upper story modification happening to the Colley Tce tenancy instead.

Methinks the $5 offered for tenancies in the cinema site development have led to this sudden change of heart.

Such a waste! Wonder how many years the site will remain vacant... another case of the old Le Cornu site in North Adelaide? :?

yep still a vacant block, and it's not like the new building was a huge proposal or that the site is a huge site like North Adelaide. Wonder what the excuse is for not building yet

I hope Wallis now regret getting rid of Glenelg especially since they lost Chelsea Cinema... had they left it there, they may have gone "Oh well, lets open up Glenelg again"...

95% of the cinema is completely gone, the last time I checked the site.
Perhaps they halted work due to lack of funds.

It's not so much what's wrong with it, but what was demolished to make way for it.

Wow!

They have demolished that beautiful art deco building, only for it to be replaced by that generic glass box. The art deco building added character, a sense of history, something unique. Now it is replaced by this...
