In my mind the most pleasing feature of this slight redesign is the integration of the LMR into a clad awning. Previous designs had the LMR sitting atop the building completely exposed.

If they use glazing with this level of reflectivity, it'll lift and already quite good design up a few notches in my mind.

as wilkiebarkid mentioned, the render has the buildings in the wrong locations, which I guess might throw off our perception of their size...
It's the standard f&%ked up perspective that, for some reason, real estate people love. Don't know why people can't just work with proper perspective and accept that their buildings are what they are and not try to make artists conform to their warped imagination.

have we seen this one before? it looks like the floors get bigger as the tower increases in height.

Stupid question, but if this was the case, does this mean it could be higher than initially thought? It looks massive in the last few renders posted.

And I'm trying really hard to over look the student accom. but dam it's ugly. Why can't they paint it interestingly? Colour in the buildings within our CBD is needed.

I dont think the building floor plates grow, i just think the angle of the balcony changes in each floor.

In that last render above, the top balcony is clearly longer from east-west then the balconies further down where that 'terrace' area is.

Hey, what happened to regular Mpol?

To your "stupid" question, the answer is no. If you look at the newest renders, it has the same number of floors as the older one. It looks huge in the render I posted because they've put the buildings in the wrong place and they've used some weird perspective to make the buildings look more impressive and taller than they actually are.

The main difference appears to be that the glass is more silvery-grey now (although that could definitely be due to the lighting) and the top two floors look integrated into the tower rather than sitting above it as they did before. This one kind of reminds me of Luminesque/Sofitel now, which is a good thing, as that building looks fantastic (although it's gone a tad quiet lately).

And yeah, the student tower is still incredibly ugly, but I don't think the colour is the issue, although the colour does make it look like Globe's brother. The design is just incredibly bare and those ugly, dinky little windows are depressing. Sadly it seems like developers don't want to spend much money making student accomodation look good (as we've seen with Urbanest opposite the railway station, this one and probably the one on Waymouth and the new Urbanest across from Adelaide Uni as well.

And on Ben's point, I think it's the perspective, not an increasing floor size. Keep in mind that the building's eastern face isn't quite parallel to the street; the eastern walls extend slightly out diagonally east from the north-south centre of the building towards the street. I could be wrong, but that's what I think is going on.

That is some crazy abuse of perspective there. As an example check out these support pillars in the corner of the building that you would expect in reality to be consistent width.

Should be had for false advertising using warped perspectives.

I agree with Ben the perspective above does make the top floors appear taller. A picture of the Gerard Goodwin building (the site of the future Student accommodation) taken today. Demolition is about 1/2 completed. View from Synagogue Place off Rundle Street.

Depends. How large is the Christian Sciene site? If less than 1500sqm, views can't be built out as this sits outside the unlimited height zone.
