Just a guess, but maybe because the existing apron has flood lights of the same height?

CBD height limits have nothing to do with what's on airport land.

Cheers

Could it be because of the height of the (future) control tower? Also consider radar and just plain and simple height limits (as in obstacles)?

Cheers

Given currect Adelaide capacity and Schedules I can see RAAF Base Edinburgh becomming a future shared facilty with Civilian Aircraft - Esp Freight and maybe those overnight 10PM to 6AM flights. The RAAF Base in Darwin is shared with Domestic airport from memory.

If Edinburgh ever becomes a civilian airport it would need a highspeed rail service to the CBD.

Cheers

You have to think that if a plane was so far off course as to crash into this proposed building then it would crash into any building regardless of the height. This proposed building is no where near the flight path of either runway hence the reason for the proposed height - my guess anyway. Whereas Nth Adelaide is right in line with the flight path.

There are multi storey airport hotels all over the world within the boundaries of the airport.

The hotel site is close to planes, but it's in a bit of a height limit "gap" on to the side. Planes don't fly over that part of the airport, if they did I'd be very concerned about the quality of our pilots.

The building height restriction in the interstitial area at Adelaide Airport is 42m AHD. If I read the chart right Adelaide CBD is 167m AHD. (the chart's realllly hard to read) What's the ground height at the airport? 10m? Adelaide is about 40m. So the height restriction should be 32m(?) at the airport and 127m(?) in the CBD. The rules seem consistent.

Nb. the chart's really hard to read I could have the numbers wrong

Going a bit off topic but have you all noticed that once you enter customs and head to wait where you board that there are no shops at all to buy food or drink? i guess you should wait till the last minute before going through customs so you can spend time with loved ones... but i like to get in early.

Although i like how you can still see you;re family through the clear glass while waiting for international flights :) quite cool

After you go through immigration I think you can only access the duty free shop. The cafe you are talking about is on the other side of the glass partition adjacent gate 16. At gate 18 it is Hudson's but I can't recall it fronting international departures, only the concourse. :?

Cheers

Have a look at the T1 Level 2 concourse map here. Number 15 is Opals Cafe. This is accessable from the International Departure gates (opposite gate 18).

Thanks mate. I just wanted my thoughts confirmed - being somewhat pedantic. I was thinking also of changed/shared flight paths, safety etc. also.

You are right. This is the only cafe accessible after immigration. Must not have noticed it as I have my beverages on the other side... :D
