Wait already?
Gosh this location is cursed. What was there before? That long bar that took over the two storefronts that are there now... You'd think restaurants in this strip would thrive.

That spot was previously Bimbo.

I wonder if it is an intransigent landlord/ rent issue? The product was good (all be it in a very competitive market).

Any idea what's going in the former Sony Centre?
Conversion works are now being carried out as the building has been leased after five years of being vacant.
BTW, we now live in an age when we buy Sony products at much lower prices from bigger & better things like Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Bing Lee, etc.
Sony Centres in this retailing age are unnecessary.

Not the best photo but some of the hoarding has been temporarily removed on the ground floor of RMP so thought I might as well snap what I could. This is taken from just inside the main entrance from Rundle Mall, looking northeast (the gyprock wall in the background is the wall between H&M and the rest of RMP). The new escalators to/from the first floor have been installed and with the removed floor plates you can now see all the way up past the first floor food court to what will be the wellness centre on the second floor. It should be quite an impressive mall with a big open feel. Looking forward to seeing this one completed.
Edit: I've just taken another look and I'm not 100% sure that the void does extend all the way up to the second floor. The height from the top of the escalators to the next floor plate doesn't seem high enough for two floors. I'm sure the renders show the void will be open up to the second floor but maybe not. They've installed sprinkler piping and some AC fixtures so there's definitely not another floor plate being removed. It could just be perspective as it's an annoyingly small gap to look through. Time will tell...

After 14 years, Burp on Hindley Street closes down on the 2nd of September.
Couldn't compete with Guzman Y Gomez which is ironically a few steps away from here!

Nooo, Not Burp! I used to love going there back in my emo days. Nothing beat a burrito from Burp! after a solid wander up and down rundle mall.

I’m not quite sure that’s “ironic”.

Nearby Zambreros probably didn't help either.
I used to frequent Burp alot in my younger years.

It is about as ironic as rain on your wedding day, or a free ride when you've already paid.
Who would've thought? It figures...

New (bottom) row of windows has been installed along the Gawler Place side of RMP - these will be for the health and wellness centre (whatever that might be):
Further towards Rundle Mall from these windows the second floor plate has been removed to form part of the large open atrium/food court.
Preparations are also being made for the white cladding which will cover the south eastern corner of the building. A metal frame has been erected to square off the recessed corner, whilst a lot of holes have been drilled through the existing marble cladding for fixing purposes. I'm still unsure as to why they haven't yet removed the very bottom part of the sculpture...
