I see that there is now a 5kph Temporary Speed Restriction (TSR) for trams turning left from King William St into North Tce. Presumably this is a response to the incident on Friday 9 March 2018. The trams are going so slowly around the curve that they are not clearing the intersection before the lights turn green for North Tce traffic. Hopefully this isn't like the TSR for trams going south on King William St between Victoria Square and South Tce which has been in place for over 12 months. So much for "temporary".
The other point being that if the overhead is so low it is going to foul the overhead, it will still rip a pantagraph off. Just more slowly. Even at 5kph, a tram will still flip the pantograph.

On the other hand, it is usually fairly easy to fix in the final stages of adjustment of the overhead.

I'm not sure about those banana poles along North Terrace though. The use of light poles for suspending overhead is a bit risky. The metal wall thicknesses of the old tram poles were much greater.

I can confirm, the trams are painfully slow... when turning left into North Terrace.

Stop paving is half done at Pulteny Street and almost done at East End.

In the Footy Express Services guide.

Please note the new tram stops on King William Road by Festival Theatre and eastern side of North Terrace will not be operational for round 1.

The Advertiser this morning:

My apologies, I can’t open the article in full so I am not sure what else they are talking about and if there is more clarification about the date...

Delays to North Tce tram extension works leaves some East End traders concerned.

SOME East End traders are concerned about the pace of work on the North Tce tram extension, with just a fortnight away from its scheduled completion.

East End Coordination Group president Julie Moralee said it was initially told the roadworks would be finished before Christmas last year.

Ms Moralee said the completion of work by the end of March also “seems highly unlikely”, and that traders have been impacted for almost two years due to work on the O-Bahn tunnel.

“It was particularly challenging for traders pre-Christmas and equally since,” she said.

“Traders will never forget the abandonment of the right-hand turn from King William St onto North Tce.

“This point was hidden, and even after it was discovered and probed by East End traders and residents it was brushed under the carpet.”

The State Government had coughed up an extra $10m to ensure work continued around the clock to minimise traffic disruption.

However, night work was restricted during the month-long Fringe Festival which concludes tomorrow.

But Transport Department spokesman said major works for the $80 million city tram project was on track to be completed by the end of the month.

He said: “Commencement of services are subject to testing and commissioning of the line as well as driver training.”

Transport Minister Stephen Mullighan last month denied any delays to the project.

RAA Senior Manager Road Safety Charles Mountain last year welcomed the funding boost to reduce disruption to motorists.

He said the works have not caused “too much inconvenience” to people during the day, and that the progress was in line with the timeline outlined in the project’s promotional material.

“I fully understand that people along the corridor are a little bit over the disruption that goes hand-in-hand with a project like this,” he said.

“Restrictions associated with major events, while they are good, they do impact on quite a significant degree of daily movements.”

Mr Mountain said when the tram work is complete they will be able to see the difference in traffic flow will along North Tce.

However, he warned that businesses and general activity should continue “as much as practically possible” during the construction of any project.

Some of these East End traders who will benefit greatly from the tram bringing people to the area just happen to have a whinge on election day.

The same traders who would also benefit if the line was further extended past their doors as proposed by Labor?

These would be the same people who cheered on the privatisation of ETSA, then whined that "the government should do something" when the power went off?

I wonder if there's a reason why some of these people don't do well? I know. It's because they have to pay overtime.

As for the right turn nonsense, we already have trams following closely with one route. Once there's another straight through route any turning movements will just back trams up King William Street. If these are the finest that small business can dredge up, we truly have a problem.

This is not so much about some East End traders… it’s mainly about expressing The Advertiser political view and finding every opportunity to shape public opinion by ballooning/distort whatever they can as long it serve their view. No wonder it has that name.
It is sad that Adelaide does not have good an unbiased daily paper or source of information.

Yes it never occurs to some people that the reason their business is struggling is because they are not very good at it
Economics 101 if you can't afford to keep it sell it
They will whinge about over governance but not when it comes to getting tax concessions and removing penalty rates which of course will go straight to employing more people and not into their back pocket

Well, I guess after April we can expect this thread to go dead for four or so years (at the very least), it's been nice talking to you all about trams...
