It's too hard to photograph, but it appears the Myer Centre has started converting level 5 to office space. I've noticed workers installing dry wall and the like over the last couple weeks. I wonder if they're fitting out for a tenant or are building a shell to put to market?

Just out of curiosity, what was this building originally built for?
It was built for David Jones in 1960-something.

There are a couple of pictures back on this thread: http://www.sensational-adelaide.com/for ... 0&start=15
In hindsight, they should've never moved. The current DJ's location is quite a downgrade - especially today.
The original David Jones was truly lavish on the ground floor. All out on the fit out, slate tiles everywhere, someone playing a grand piano, the works. When you then left the ground floor the next levels were dire. Basically looked like a Target with grey carpet. When the Myer Centre opened, it blew the old David Jones out of the water. They needed to move.

How much of the building did DJs actually occupy? Did they have all six floors or were some floors always office space?

The top 2 floors were always office.

I can't recall how many floors the store was.

And they had the top floor of the Gawler Place car park/Parc Arcade building too? The top lift button read David Jones until a few months ago. I presume this was interconnected to one of the floors of Rundle Mall Plaza? It's level with the 6th floor of RMP but if that was always offices I'm not sure what the set up was...

Yes. From my hazy memory that's where a lot of the manchester and furniture was. You always had to go there to access the car park lifts.

Correct. The original DJ's was 8 levels all up - Lower Ground 'Food Glorious Food' (please bring this back, even just to gawk at the $250/kg steaks :D ), Ground (the lavish all out floors with the legendary pianist), and 6 above ground floors. You could access the Gawler Place car park from the 6th floor.

So much for rebranding the IGA on North Terrace opposite the old RAH, even that has closed, chains on the doors.

One of the lasting memories from the old David Jones were the old single file escalators that were in the upper floors.

I'm not sure whos brought idea it was to build escalators that were only wide enough for one person, but it definitely made it difficult for parents with young children.

A few screen grabs off lans for the upgrade of Citi Centre Arcade (now Rundle Square), plans are available here: https://dmzweb.cityofadelaide.com.au/ag ... t_2018.pdf

Was interested to see how this was going to play out with the strange layout of the centre. I don't know how the three new tenancies to be located just inside the Rundle Mall entrance will do but good to see there will still be a few further leasing opportunities within the centre.

So they have the one property that faces on to both Rundle Mall and Hindmarsh Square, and they close off the link between them entirely. Well fucking done. :toilet:

Looks like they're setting it up with only one checkout area that requires you to exit the store onto Pulteney Street. Which... not how I would've done it, I'll say that much.
