Are they being presumptuous building on land they don't own?
I know I'll sound like Stumpjumper here but is there some back door dealings with SkyCity and the government?

Basically the story behind it was, the casino couldn't come up with a decent design so they scrunched up their piece of paper and aimed for the bin nearby. It may've missed the bin, but the idea hit them. Why not make the design like a scrunched up piece of paper!!! :o

That render is nothing on the video just posted on Adelaide now. Far more impressive with the daylight views.

I actually looks like the near by festival centre?

personally I think it looks great and hope like hell the normal (or not normal) anti development people end up blocking it.

On the face of it I quite like the look, but however I hold great concerns over the interaction with the river front. In the render it looks like a big fucking blank wall directly on the lakeside walkway, presumably with car park behind. In the video it looks like the development is on stilts over the existing hill, which is amazingly still green in eternal shade. Either way, those are both horrid fronts onto the lakeside walkway and should not be allowed. A couple of cafe tenants would be a lot nicer for the lakeside and would even be a money earner.

The rest of it looks cool, from what I could see before the video gave me a seizure.

When the aerial view flashes up a few times, you can see that they've actually cut in a substantial cove of the Torrens Lake - in reality it doesn't curve in towards the site anywhere near as much as it does in the fly-over. I don't know if they actually intend to do something like that or not, but you'd wonder why they'd bother to bring the lake up to the building if they're not actually going to do anything with the new frontage at river level. With that in mind, I'm giving them a temporary pass on that until something more detailed comes along - if the riverbank stays where it is, as you'd think is more likely, there will be more space in front than this is showing. AtD's right, though - a stupid big wall is not acceptable.

As for the 'above-ground' building, I'm all for it. I'd love to see proper, realistic perspectives, because I think I'd like it even more than I do now. Wonderful, abstract, big shiny thing. Great stuff. And greenery in the Festival Plaza, thank goodness!

Fisrt impression - overwhelmed by all the proposals Adelaide it talking about at once along the river - let's own the river rather than ignor, hide, turn away from it. Not sure about the interation with the railway bldg. however, or with the dark glass of the festival theatre. Overall, propositions stunning - far more than for a 'regional, backwater city' - international impact here.

Chessy video, but wow that is impressive!

Looks like floor space is going to be doubled in size and a new major entrance facing the upgraded Festival Plaza and King William Street will be built.

As others have mentioned, I majorly dislike the giant wall that will face the edge of the Torrens River, can't be hard to incorporate some cafes and bars? or even a tourist info centre?. BTW aren't the Intercontinental Hotel planning an expansion towards the river?, this will be impossible if the casino projects gets the green light.

Whereabouts in the proposal have they set funds aside to make the Torrens water shiny and blue? I'm excited about that.

Surely their exemption from the alcohol curfew has made this obvious...

from what i saw in the video, there wont be a blank wall fronting the river, but I will wait for something a bit more serious to be released.. it does look promising tho. :D
