[COM] Rundle Lantern
[COM] Re: #Proposed - Rundle Convergence
Certainly isn't going to look too impressive during the day. but hopefully the look at night will make up for it.
[COM] Re: #U/C - Rundle Convergence

Why have they only bothered sticking one up there?
Are they going to test it before they put the rest up, or what?
Just seems like a waste of closing the road, dragging the crane in, etc, only for one panel.

Those pics are pretty awesome considering there from a pohone Howie!
[COM] Re: #U/C - Rundle Convergence
Matt, that's almost certainly what they're doing. If they can get it showing on one panel, and prove the software and hardware talks then they can easily scale it up.
Beamer.. that's from the old K800 3.2mp phone, but i retouched it in photoshop.

Got in touch with Damien Mair (from Fusion) and David Brown (from BB Architects) .. very nice guys.
Just made a front page post on this project .. check out the clip Damien and David sent through.
The prototype is not to stay, it's for the city council and councillors to demonstrate that it works, and that there are no structural / design / implementation problems, no problems in terms of ventilation, fire hazards etc. The lights will be switched on at 6:30pm this thursday.
They also took design cues from the Dexia Project in Brussels which uses a similar system in a skyscraper... they have a man who's worked on the brussels project coming from melbourne to help with this project also.
It's all very exciting!

Had a short chat with him regarding this project...The prototype for Rundle Lantern project, winner of the Rundle Convergence tender, is now up. Currently this unit is only 3x4 panels, but will eventually expand to 34x22 panels to cover nearly 30% of the current eyesore of a carpark.
Damien Mair the Principal Creative Director for Fusion, the company behind this fantastic design, and David Brown from BB Architects, the architect for the project , sent through this clip of the prototype.
You can see this live at the corner of Rundle and Pulteney Streets, Thursday Evening 6:30pm for a short demonstration for the City Council.
More discussion in our forum thread here.
