ADELAIDE - TOWARDS A GREATER CITY SKYLINE
It's in the south-east corner, pretty regular looking building.
Here's a link to google street-view with a view of the current building.

Great if this goes ahead as it will bring new development and decent height to all four corners of the square.
Many thanks Cirocz. Yes, it will certainly alter that corner.

It is interesting. Judging from the exterior only, the current Hindmarsh Square building seems to be reasonably large, modern and well kept relative to a large amount of the CBD. You would think it'd be more profitable for the bank to chose a less developed or dilapidated site to demolish. That is, of course, assuming they intend to demolish the building.

I hope they don't demolish the Hindmarsh Sq HQ, I really like that building
.
Personally I thought they would rather build a brand new HQ close to the King William Street finance precinct.

Don't get too excited about this just yet. Also keep in mind the very low height limit of the area.
From The Advertiser:
Adelaide Expansion
Bendigo and Adelaide Bank will double its Adelaide headquarters on Hindmarsh Square with a new open-plan office to house 900 city staff.
Ahead of the bank's annual meeting held simultaneously in Bendigo and Adelaide yesterday, the board approved the development of a 17,000sq m office to bring the bank's city employees from four separate locations into one.
Work on the new office was expected to begin in three years' time, the bank said.

If this ever gets built, the low-rise crap on the eastern end of Hindmarsh Square will look even more out of place.
Ever time I pass those buildings the more I want to see them bulldozed and replaced with decent buildings (40m+) with good street activity not 2-3 level concrete boxes that belong in the burbs.

Adl / Bendigo will relocate, until their new 5 star building will be built, further more it will be over 10 stories! my sources have said they want a complete change over and be in the the new premises by early 2011.

Personally I am very surprised that they would consider demolishing a building that isn't even 20 years old.. financially it isn't prudent, and it is certainly not in touch with today's environmental awareness (imagine all the embodied energy in the existing structure and then again in the construction of a completely new structure)..

20 years is a lifetime in office buildings. Some office skyscrapers (many taller than Westpac house) are built only to be knocked down in 4 or 5 years, even less if you include what's happening in shanghai.

Lots of conflicting info going around about this one at the moment. One minute construction won't start for 3 years, next minute they want to be in their new building by 2011??? Will be good to get official news next week.
I don't really like the idea of demolishing this building to create a new taller one. There are a heap of other sites around the city that need to be demolished and redeveloped before this site.
I wonder where Adelaide Bank are planning to relocate during this time considering there is virtually no large areas of office space available for lease in the CBD. There are smaller floor areas in random buildings throughout the city but not large floors that are altogether in the one building. Maybe they have secured space in the new Conservatory building on a short term lease but I would have thought the developers would require min of 5 years? Or they may go for random office locations all around the city which would be a nightmare for productivity.
This is all a very strange way of going about trying to get new office accommodation.

That's one complaint some environmentalists have against the current energy star rating system. It doesn't take into consideration it's projected commercial lifespan nor the energy consumed during construction, which is quite significant.

From the Advertiser: Not sure how work will start soon with no application lodged... Another quality story by the Advertiser.
Adelaide Bank rebadging underway
MEREDITH BOOTH
April 29, 2009 12:15pm
BENDIGO and Adelaide Bank will complete rebadging 24 Adelaide Bank branches in South Australia by Sunday, a bank spokeswoman Lauren Treacy said.
The branches have been undergoing a revamp to the maroon and gold Bendigo Bank brand - part of a flagged shift of its national retail network under the Bendigo banner.
Costings for the marketing move were yet to be released but include signage, uniforms and marketing material, she said.
However the blue Adelaide Bank moniker on the headquarters of Hindmarsh Square would remain.
Architects Hassell have been awarded the commission to design an office building and workplace interior for the new Adelaide office of the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank with work to begin soon.
The building brief called for a minimum of 15,000sq m of space to house about 900 employees in the Adelaide office.
Hassell's "residence'' design was chosen by the bank.
The firm said the design won ahead of two other architects which began earlier this year.
The project would now involve Hassell's Adelaide and Melbourne studios, headed by designers Mariano De Duonni and Anna Fairbank.
Meanwhile Bendigo and Adelaide Bank said they would replace SA company Extrastaff's signs mistakenly removed from 90 King William Street during a revamp of a branch on the weekend.
The bank said the signage would be restored as soon as possible, however, Extrastaff managing director Declan Rowan was yet to be contacted by the bank .
