Guys all the Illys rebranded to 'Un Cafe Bar' (UCB) months ago. They also changed their decent coffee blend to something less decent over a year ago.Ben wrote:What is it now?cruel_world00 wrote:In other coffee news, Illy on North Terrace (across from University of Adelaide) has re branded. Strange.
No, I think its something completely different. It was dark when I went home on the bus, but it was rebranded in a beige-light brown colour. I'll have a look tomorrow, have the morning off.monotonehell wrote:Guys all the Illys rebranded to 'Un Cafe Bar' (UCB) months ago. Did the cafe have any relationship to the international company with the same name, Illy? or that could be a reason for renamingmonotonehell wrote:Guys all the Illys rebranded to 'Un Cafe Bar' (UCB) months ago. From what the original manager of my favourite Illy said, I don't think they did besides a franchise on the name and decor. But I don't know for sure, just second hand info from the former manager.danielphin wrote:Did the cafe have any relationship to the international company with the same name, Illy? or that could be a reason for renaming
whoops, they didnt like the brown colour design, so it was changed again today into a blue n white Lavarra coffee signmonotonehell wrote:Fairynuff jk-lotsanumbers, so they've gone independent then?

You should be a lot less confident, because in fact they opened here in Adelaide with the Illy brand 'front and centre'. The sub title "un cafe bar" was more a description than a name. Recently they dropped the Illy brand (they still have the Illy coffee in store) took the 'un cafe bar' and developed that into a re-brand "UCB". They've stepped away from Illy, possibly so they don't have to pay the franchise fees?Maximus wrote:I'm fairly confident in saying that the Illy cafes have always been called "Un Cafe Bar" ever since they came into existence. I think everyone calls them "Illy" because they serve only Illy coffee and (more importantly) because the Illy logo is far more prominent (and easier to say) than the Un Caffe Bar name.
Alrighty then, I'll take your word for it. But, despite all their advertising (lots on Fresh FM lately), I can't imagine that "Un Cafe Bar" is ever going to catch on properly. It just doesn't roll off the tongue. And, apart from anything, Adelaideans do tend to have a habit of holding onto the past a little bit... I still use the terms 'Footy Park', 'John Martins Car Park' and 'Burbridge Road'.monotonehell wrote:You should be a lot less confident, because in fact they opened here in Adelaide with the Illy brand 'front and centre'. I only know this because I'm a coffee addict. They seem to be concentrating on the abbreviation as the brand "UCB" sounds like KFC?Maximus wrote:Alrighty then, I'll take your word for it. Illy and Lavazza are just the brands of coffee that they stock. The one on North Terrace was an Un Caffè Bar (UCB) now under operation as, I think, Espresso Café.minibrings wrote:Illy on North Terrace is now Lavazza. Its an Italian company and I believe they also owned the Illy brand. Just rebranding everything to Lavazza. Amie is the proprietress. Nice gelato (though I still prefer Cibo gelato).
I why was wondering why that cafe was so busy tonight?Howie wrote:Btw guys, UCB on rundle street is now Felici. They got out of the whole franchise thing, and now they're stocking new beans (not Illy beans anymore).. but it actually tasted pretty good. This week they're doing "Free coffee all week long".. no catches, it's to support charity.. so get on down if you're around that end of town.
