Exactly...
I now await the designs before I say to much more? But lets face it, the Brickworks Markets are pretty much dead these days anyway. The Sunday Poorka Produce markets, Gepps Cross markets and the Port Adelaide markets are 10x better now.

The Plant Liquidators building is a wooden log cabin. Was Plant Liquidators a family owned business?

Then park in Foodland's own carpark, not on George St. In all the time I lived around the corner from that Foodland, the carpark was
never full.

WOOLWORTHS has released the first drawings of its proposed shopping centre for the Brickworks site.
The supermarket giant’s concept plans for the site - including a food court and 50 specialty shops - were endorsed at last week’s West Torrens Council meeting.
The sale of 4.8ha of the 6.6ha Thebarton site to Woolworths was agreed to by the council late last month after lengthy negotiations. The sale price is yet to be released.
Woolworths property manager Nigel Smith said the company wanted to work with the council to ensure links between the shopping centre, the kiln and markets.
“The approximate area to be purchased will leave the heritage kiln, markets building and Linear Park along the Torrens River in public ownership,” Mr Smith said.
“Integral to the design of the new retail centre is the recognition of this site’s substantial history by creating visual and pedestrian links to the heritage kiln and chimney.”
The new centre, to be known as Brickworks Marketplace, will also house a Woolworths supermarket, Big W, food court and a variety of specialty stores including fashion and fresh food outlets.
West Torrens chief executive Terry Buss said the council’s endorsement of the concept plan would allow Woolworths to make an application to the Development Assessment Commission

Sounds ok and I do like the look of the render, but there's been no mention of any residential component, as some on here have mentioned I think some apartments close by would add further vibrancy to the complex.
More importantly, I hope they retain some leisure aspect to the development. Admittedly what's there at the moment is pretty run down, but if it was redeveloped and similar but new facilities were provided (crazy golf, bumper boats, go-karts etc), then combined with the new shopping centre it could potentially be a great place for people to spend leisure time.
Without these elements it would end up as just another run-of-the-mill small shopping centre, with a few grotty delapidated stalls in a shed next to it.

The stores they're looking at building are going to be too large for a site like this (at least, not if they plan to build anything else). Their partner, Lowe's, is a warehouse style chain - they got them on board for a reason.

THE future of an $85 million overhaul of the Brickworks Markets is in doubt.
More than six months since Woolworths committed to the upgrade at the Torrensville site the project is still waiting for development approval.
Woolworths signed a memorandum of understanding with West Torrens Council in November to build a supermarket, Big W, food court and 50 specialty shops.
The supermarket giant then lodged its plans with the State Government’s Development Assessment Commission (DAC) in January but is still waiting for approval. Woolworths property manager Nigel Smith said the delay had threatened the project. “We certainly anticipated that approval would have been granted by now,” Mr Smith said.
“There are some things we know we need approved for the development to go ahead but it’s a case of explaining them to the authorities.
“We will continue to work with them but obviously we can’t go on like this forever and it requires flexibility on both sides.”
Mr Smith said the DAC had asked the company to include an open-air mall and residential development.
“There are things we know the community wants and doesn’t want ... in places like Adelaide (an open-air mall) doesn’t really work with the extreme weather conditions,” he said.
Mr Smith said Woolworths was hoping to gain approval by July.
A DAC spokeswoman said the commission had made some changes to the plans but would not provide details.
“We are now waiting for the applicant to come back to us,” she said.
Brickworks Traders Committee chairman Peter Athans said it was important the project went ahead.
“We feel that we can complement Woolworths and we can work together,” Mr Athans said.
“It will be good for the traders and for SA ... it would be a great mistake to disregard it,” he said.
West Torrens Council CEO Terry Buss said although it was still possible for Woolworths to pull out, he was confident the project would go ahead.
“There are a number of conditions in the contract and one of the conditions is to have the plans approved by the DAC so once that’s ticked off we can get it moving,” Mr Buss said.
“There were a number off issues they (the DAC) wanted addressed but we are expecting the plans will be considered in June or July.”
However, Lockleys ward councillor Kym McKay questioned if the redevelopment would happen.
“They announced it would go ahead and it seems to have lost traction since then,” Cr McKay said.

I think it will be at least another 10 years before we get more news, if previous Adelaide major projects are anything to go by.

Brickworks to become $85m shopping mall
THIS is the first look at plans for a major shopping hub earmarked for Adelaide's famous Brickworks Market site.
The proposed $85 million redevelopment will return the former flea market into a site hosting 50 specialty shops including a Woolworths, Big W store, food court and commercial office building.
West Torrens Council accepted an undisclosed offer to sell two-thirds of the site to a Woolworths development arm Fabcot Pty in June last year and will develop the site subject to approval from the Development Assessment Commission.
The council still owns the current market precinct at the Brickworks, which is expected to remain as markets and will be incorporated into the proposed shopping centre.
Plans obtained by The Advertiser outline Fabcot will retain the state heritage-listed kiln and chimney as well as incorporate red brickwork into the design to ensure the identity of the former Brickworks factory is not lost.

It would be great if DTEI could do something with Ashwin Terrace (or road or whatever it is) and some how remove it from impacting South Road like it does - especially if this mall is going to happen.
