I just don't see the logic in a large scale developement for this shopping centre.

But the whole point is that it's not a retail expansion but a leisure and entertainment expansion. I agree there's more than enough retail in the area but I certainly see the need for more leisure and entertainment facilities all over Adelaide.

I think the expansion of the Golden Grove Village shopping precinct will be good for the local community as it is in an ideal area and position, because the way i see it Golden Grove Village has easy parking close to the door and a local bus service so you are going to get in there do your grocery shopping or get what ever you need to get, maybe grab a coffee and head home. Tea Tree Plaza is for recreational shoppers as it is not so easy for parking but has great access to the City, the Airport and other areas so it is ideal for people who may want to spend a few hours just browsing the shops or go watch a movie. It kind of a similar scenario up in the northern suburbs where you got Elizabeth Shopping Centre which is for recreational shoppers and cinema goers and Munno Para Shopping which is for grocery shopping and bulky goods.

Just saw a Jones Lang LaSalle 'For Lease' sign by the south entrance (next to HJ). Work should begin 'bout soon.
Had my first meal from the new Prices Fresh bakery yesterday!
But unfortunately, Baker's Delight (next to the fruiterers) closed completely!
I remember buying stuff that I like from Bakers Delight including Cheesymite Scrolls! Prices was alright but now, I really miss Baker's Delight!

There's virtually no street activity on suburban arterials, and nor should there be! Why would anyone want the activity to be somewhere where traffic is whizzing by at 80km/h?

Street activity makes sense in the City where the streets tend to have a lot of people on them. It also makes sense in the inner suburbs where there's a lot of passing traffic and it's moving more slowly. But it rarely makes any sense in the outer suburbs.

And that's not a problem. Just because people want a vibrant city doesn't mean they want all the suburbs to be vibrant!

Has anyone heard of Forest Lake Village in Queensland? It is the sister mall to Golden Grove Village and had a few extensions built years ago!

New stores opened at Golden Grove Village this year:
Dick Smith (electronics)
Sports Power (sports)
Fantastic Homewares & Gifts (giftware)
Bike Lane (bike dealer)

Those "new" stores have been at the expense of other stores though, not really an expansion.

I really hope there is still some life in this project, I think there is a market for a Wallis or Greater Union cinema in the Golden Grove area, I think TTP being so busy will actually attract people away from Hoyts and bring them to GG instead.

Business booms for golden boys

AS A teenager, David Fitch earned pocket money by picking up glasses in his father’s pub, the Village Taverner at Golden Grove.
Now 31, he owns almost everything in view from his office in the Clock Tower building opposite the pub, and is planning a $160 million redevelopment of the suburbs’s commercial heart.
“I am highly driven to be successful for myself,” he says, rocking quickly back and forth in his boardroom chair.
“But my goal is not solely to prove myself or to create a name for myself but to create opportunities for others.”
Mr Fitch and identical twin brother Mathew, who took over the Fitch group of companies when their father Leo retired five years ago, bought Golden Grove Village in February for $100 million.
David controls the development arm of the business while Mathew is in charge of finance. Returning from honeymooning in Queensland this month, most of David Fitch’s focus over the next year will be on delivering the Golden Grove development, which includes a 15,000sq m expansion of the Village and 400 apartments (see fact file).
“Being brought up with the business around us it doesn’t scare us to be talking these figures,” he said.
To achieve the vision, the business will have to borrow money for the first time with his father’s blessing.
Leo Fitch, now 74, started out as a panel beater and his first business was the Holden Hill Crash Shop on Lower North East Rd.
He later bought pubs, bottle shops and commercial properties across Adelaide and Queensland, at the same time as operating the Beverley-based car parts maker Precision Components Australia.
The family was raised in Rostrevor, where the twins attended Rostrevor College before both studied commerce at Queensland’s Bond University. They also later worked together as accountants at KPMG.
David Fitch says joining the family business was all he ever dreamed about.
