They should just stick a Timezone up there like the one in Surfers Paradise.

I remember going to Dazzleland as a kid, I think I only went once. I remember wanting to go more but it was too expensive.
I also seem to recall that I was primary school age, but most of the rides and games seemed even too young for me at the time.

So it seems that it was too expensive and aimed at the wrong age group. Anyone who was older when it was open able to comment?

I went several times, from memory, and I don't recall it being overly expensive if you kept to a reasonable amount of activities. As usual, the greatest expense came from the add-ons - food, drinks, souvenirs and the like.

Now that I think of it, Fernwood and Lincraft must be either paying a fearsomely high figure for their spaces, or they cleverly signed long, cheap leases back in the dark days - the latter seeming more likely given any tenancy was a good tenancy back then. The Myer Centre is certainly more popular than it was a few years back, so one wonders what management will consider if the lower floors prove to be increasingly profitable. The upper floors remain as dead as ever, but surely there are better solutions than renting out the rest of it to a gym on the cheap.

Lincraft would be paying dick all rent, that I can guarantee. Same with Fernwood.

Mmm Facebook groups. Even worse than AdelaideNow comments. For example:
Shimii Jarrad ahah maybe they can fund the theme park from all the tax we seem to pay.. just a suggestion and i like the idea of turning the whole city into a theme park. I reckon that would fix the issue of a lack of tourists/people :P

I'd love a quality (ie not like the skanky ones they have in Surfer's) Themepark here. but alas unless we had the population of LA and surrounds or the tourist throughput of Orlando, there's no way one would survive financially.

I think this is a rather good comment actually. they could get rid of the trams and add roller coasters and they could add a giant drop on the side of the Westpac building. Come to think of it, a giant-drop like thing in the Myers Centre that goes from bottom to top to bottom again, would be a pretty cool replacement to the roller-coaster at Dazzleland

Do you have more footage that captures could be taken from? Video and photos of Dazzeland are surprisingly hard to find.

Such an incredibly early 1990's environment, the type of thing I don't expect to see again for a long time to come.

Hi Nort. This is pretty much the only footage I have of the place with the exception of my sister and I eating ice cream cones, my dad playing an arcade racing game and some shots of sculptures and models made entirely of lego blocks. If anyone would like me to post footage of the lego exhibit please let me know.

Thanks for the video!
What other home videos have you got?

Hi all,

I know this is slightly off topic but it was in those glory Dazzeland days, but does anyone remember the Lego competitions that Myer ran with the opening of Dazzeland? I had a friend who got in the finals and won some lego sets. I remember the first couple of weeks the place was packed!

Sad to see it go!

I remember going to the Myer Lego shows in the late 90s and possibly 2003! Does anyone have photos of that empty Dazzleland? I would like to see what the place looks like today, including that remaining Coffee Shop Sign. Entry to the top floors by escalator are impossible.

I wonder what would be required to save the Myer Center.

Save isn't the right word as I don't see it being demolished any time in the near future, however it is obviously not living up to any of its potential. The upper floors tend to be quiet and the top two floors are now completely abandoned. They are obviously not practical for general stores, as you won't get much random foot traffic five stories up. Brisbane Myer Center has cinemas up the top where their equivalent of Dazzeland once was, could an entertainment area like that be the eventual future for our Myer Center?
