It will also allow me to find a park much better at harbortown....loljimmy_2486 wrote:Placing it at parafield is not a bad idea as people from inner north can still travel to it and the new future port Adelaide, Mawson lakes, and golden grove area can get to it as well.

[ONH] Re: #Parafield Airport - Shopping Precinct Development $400m
Well that's funny.
A couple of years ago, Adelaide Produce Market Limited was disposing of some excess land on Main North Road at Pooraka (just on the Parafield side of the old Metro Abbatoirs, on the north side of Main North Rd just past Woolowrths distribution centre).
The land had been zoned for a DFO (ie direct factory outlet, like Harbourtown). However, the zoning was then changed to make a DFO impossible. This occurred as Harbourtown was being planned. The idea was that Adelaide counln't suppport two Harbourtowns.
So APNL flogged the land for office warehouse development.
Now, Harbourtown has approval for another edition of itself a few kms away at Edinburgh, where land has recently been zoned to support DFO's.
No conspiracy of course - it must all be in the timing.
You may be surprised at the money spent by people from so-called lower social economic groups on things like Calvin Klein underpants, Ray-Ban sunglasses etc. If you can't afford a Ferrari, then buying sunglasses like the ones the Ferrari owners wear at least gives you the feeling of being a few rings up the ladder. They're called aspirational buyers and only the lure of sex is stronger than the desire to feel more upmarket than perhaps you are, they say.

[ONH] Re: #Parafield Airport - Shopping Precinct Development $400m
building a DFO will give some people jobs... and mabye store discounts. thats about as profitable as it will get. very bad idea IMO. and adelaide couldnt hold two DFO's

Maybe you should apply for a job as a consultant at Harbour Town, since you seem to know more then they do.momentkiller wrote:building a DFO will give some people jobs... and mabye store discounts. thats about as profitable as it will get. very bad idea IMO. and adelaide couldnt hold two DFO's

[ONH] Parafield Airport | Developments & News
I was amazed to read in The Advertiser on Saturday about promising plans for an indoor adventure / extreme sports park on Main North Road, near Parafield Airport.

The details have obviously yet to be finalised, but according to the report above, it could include such facilities as:
Now assuming this is done well, it could really be something that begins to finally put Adelaide on the national tourist map. Also, from my observation of similar complexes in the UK, this sort of development tends to attract investment in other entertainment / tourism facilities in adjacent sites, so we could potentially end up with something quite exciting!

[ONH] Re: Proposed: Indoor adventure park near Parafield Airport
Sounds great but only thing that lets it down is it's location on main north road which while having high visibility and good road access it has really bad public transport. How are people supposed to get to and from this place? Buses only come every 30-60min at the best of times, trains are over a mile away (too far) and there are no decent walking or cycling routes. The expectation is that you have to rely on car transport, just hope they provide enough parking spaces.

Obviously if this goes through they will upgrade public transport to suit their needs.metro wrote:Sounds great but only thing that lets it down is it's location on main north road which while having high visibility and good road access it has really bad public transport. [ONH] Re: Proposed: Indoor adventure park near Parafield Airport
I think the concern about public transport is a valid one, but as Stefan said hopefully something could be done about that. I suppose it's not much different than what usually happens if a new major shopping centre is built. They provide a new bus route (or alter an existing route) so that buses go directly to it, and the more popular it is, the more frequent the buses become.
Therefore while it's a valid concern, it's probably not one that should be fatal to the concept.

[ONH] Re: Proposed: Indoor adventure park near Parafield Airport
They can't move the train station any closer, and Main North road is already one of the main bus routes to the North. Something like this isn't going to affect Public Transport one bit.
That said there are already lots of buses that pass by here, it's not ideal but it's still a good location.

This should be merged with the Costco thread, as both developments are included in this location.

But surely a grocery bulk store is a very different topic to discuss than an indoor adventure sports park!crawf wrote:This should be merged with the Costco thread, as both developments are included in this location.

Not when it's part of the whole development. Costco hasn't even been confirmed yet, it's just rumours at the moment.
