Reminds me of the crowne plaza.... unfortunately. Lets hope it doesn't get dumbed down to look as bad that.

Brick? Yuck! What's this thing about trying to keep modern buildings "in character" with the older ones, and in particular those built with (red) brick? Look at the shite of buildings in Grenfell Street (ex-SA Water House, etc.) or worse still the Stamford Plaza Hotel, North Terrace (winner of a Brickbat Award). Build the new to complement the old without having to use old materials. Some contrast is also good. Man!
Cheers
P.S. There should be a law passed that bricks should not be used in anything that is higher than two storeys!

I personally think from these renders it could potentially win the award for ugliest building of the past decade. It is horrendous, cheap and anything but complimentary to the heritage.

I dont have a problem with the design. Looks like a modern French building or something you would find in Montreal, Canada

The Crowne Plaza looks 10x better than this heap of rubbish. Terrible proposal

I suspect the renders are less flattering then would be the reality. I've seen plenty worse. It's a good spot for a hotel, though you'd have to think it'd be the budget type.

I'm not sure what the issue is.
it looks different, it is pretty high and is good for the area.
sure, it isn't what I would design, but 1) I'm not a designer and 2)it isn't just a big glass box.
personally, the amount of people against it, gives me the impression that it may actually be a piece of interesting architecture that the city so desperately needs.
