The Ice Arena proposal being near SA Aquatic Centre, the Athletics Stadium and Netball Stadium will be ideal for a big event like the Commonwealth Games.
Except there are no ice events in the Commonwealth Games.
Yes I am aware of there is no ice events but I am sure in this modern age the Ice Arena could be designed so that it can be altered for events that are in the Commonwealth Games.
While that is possible, there would be other locations that could do that job just as well (with more modern spectator and athlete facilities).

I don't know if we had a thread for it, but the Marian Ice Arena was scrapped two weeks ago for costs. Apparently Playford still on track:

Is there a shortage? Quite a few schools in the area have basketball courts, as well as the Council-owned John McVeity Centre. There aren't any Ice Hockey rinks in the area.

Given there's only 1 ice rink in Adelaide I'd say there's a shortage of ice rinks.

ice skating is not a serious sport in Adelaide... you could say there is a shortage of American football stadiums too

It doesn't necessarily need to be for 'sport', but recreational use especially if combined with other options, dining, bar etc.

Is it "not a serious sport" because there are fewer people interested in playing those sports, or because there aren't enough practice venues?
Surprisingly, the Ice Hockey SA has a league with five clubs in three grades, all home and away games at Ice Arena. There are only four teams in the Gridiron SA league, each with its own home ground.

they're niche sports
Playford is a poor area and poor kids aren't going to be spending money on entering an ice skating venue.

Playford, like Salisbury, Port Adelaide Enfield and Onkaparinga, is quite wide from the foothills to the sea. Characterising the entire population of the LGA as "poor" or "rich" is unreasonable. It might work for smaller councils like Adelaide, Walkerville and Charles Sturt.

I'm not characterising the entire population I'm characterising the majority
the facility will be located in the central area
