Forget about a tram down the parade. After years of debate the residents voted to keep the gum trees instead,(even though these trees have heaved up the inner lanes on both sides of the parade).

The residents didn't vote against the tram. The tram was hardly the determining issue in that election. Labor lost because Murdoch ran a campaign that it was time we had a change - for changes sake alone. It was a pretty tightly contested election at that too. There's no way you can say based off the result of that election that there is some kind of mandate against trams.
I agree it is unlikely we will get trams on the Parade for some time though. The current government has absolutely no backbone - they are all about PR stunts and have no interest in doing anything remotely controversial, even where it is in the clear best interests of the state. They just want to stay in power. No vision at all. Malinauskas and his pals are a massive disappointment.

Yes this was not a state election issue but it was an major issue at the local council level.

Ah yes, those horrible gum tree (the worst variety, I might add) that were only planted in the early-80s despite what some locals tried to appeal masses at the time of that election that they were integral to preserving the history of the Parade. Would be great to see them go, regardless.

Hopefully the crane can 'accidentally' knock them out of the ground.

Is that the same crane with no discernible change under it in five months?

I wonder what it cost to hire that for six months as street art/public sculpture...

Went past this the other day and they look like they're at least up to level 3. At about 2,000m2 per floor that's 10,000m2. Hardly no discernible change.

Me too, went past yesterday and there were workers on site. I think everyone should be patient.

Photo from the Parade - it looks a pretty high quality build - quite like the curves across the balconies
