It took 45 minutes to get from Port Wakefield road to South Road today, when is the northern connector being built?

What time of the day was it, where was the congestion/congestion worst and was there a non-routine cause (traffic accident for example) ?
These would be interesting to know.

About 70% of people were late for work today (at least at my place of work) due to all the trees that fell on roads overnight due to the high winds after the hot days.
Poor trees.

A truck ran up the ass of a ute and caused a 4 car pileup, I hit the congestion near the Globe Derby intersection at about 7:40am. Didn't get through the Salisbury Highway, PWR intersection until 8:10 and was past the pileup by about 8:30.

That'll do it.
It's also perhaps a little too much time to appreciate the Salisbury Highway interchange with PWR.

The previously unfunded Roe Highway extension between Kwinana Freeway and Stock Road in Perth's southern suburbs now looks like going ahead with the bulk of the construction money coming from the feds and a toll on heavy transport.

This is a positive development for the Northern Connector as it is a funding model that has the potential to be applied there as well. A heavy transport toll could be enforced by banning vehicles above a certain weight on the adjacent section of PWR.
Such a ban currently applies on sections of Leach Highway and South Street in Perh's southern suburbs all be it for different reasons.

No it couldn't. Port Wakefield Road is vital for accessing many businesses in the northern suburbs. And if the industry's claims are accurate, no such ban would be needed anyway - the user benefits would outweigh the costs of a toll.

Local deliveries excepted.
That's how it works for Leach Highway in Perth's southern suburbs.

In terms of the federal government's extra road spend in this budget, this didn't make the cut.

It's not all that surprising.
At least the Darlington and Torrens to Torrens parts are happening. I guess that's still a silver lining.

Only 2bn for Adelaide out of all that funding - even WA gets 7bn! What is happening - seems out of proportion with needs and population here. However, good to see these projects funded. We need extra $152m to finish Gawler electrification urgently though.

Agreed, how is Adelaide meant to progress with building industry when our road network is so poor? It's almost a shame that Adelaide doesn't have more marginal seats, Western Sydney have done the best from last year's election.
I think Abbott should have funded the Northern Connector, T-T, and billion dollar Darlington project (not the 600 mil version) at the VERY least.

Northern Connector
(South Australian Government; $1.1 billion)
The Port of Adelaide is expected to experience continuing growth in freight volumes, placing pressure on the efficiency of freight movements to and from the port by road and rail. The roads that the Northern Connector will join – Port Wakefield Road and the Northern Expressway – are part of the National Land Transport Network.
The South Australian Government is proposing a road and rail link between the port and intermodal terminals at Penfield in the north of Adelaide.
The current proposal is to deliver the Northern Connector in two stages, and to include the rail solution as corridor preservation only:
• a 15.6 kilometre six lane (three lanes in each direction) Northern Connector road joining the Northern Expressway to the Port River Expressway. It is proposed to construct the Northern Connector in two stages:
• Stage 1 south of Bolivar Road to meet congestion modelled from 2016;
• Stage 2 north of Bolivar Road to meet congestion modelled from 2021; and
• land acquisition to preserve the future option of re-routing the interstate rail line to the west of Port Wakefield Road.
It is suggested that any project funding be conditional on the provision of an updated, detailed cost benefit analysis. In addition, the South Australian Government should also be asked to provide demand models to determine whether the project would still be economically viable in the presence of efficient road pricing, and include user charging at a rate that reflects efficient pricing as part of any road based solution.
Priority list is out before end of month !!!
