When I look at the proposed busway extension, I find it hard to work out where the money actually was being spent. A lot of the work seemed to be either cosmetic, or something that could be done on Council's minor works programs. Coloured lanes, replacement of some features that really need replacing in any case because of their present parlous state are examples of what I mean.

I wonder if the original submission for funds was one of those that was cobbled up at the last minute in one of the numerous funding schemes from Canberra where you have to have your submission in yesterday to get the money. Maybe the Oh Dear Bahn project was a bit over the top anyway?

If that was the case, and the funding was excessive anyway, then maybe most of the work could be done within existing resources, and the Queenslanders could have the $$.

To be constructive, why do not the State Govt and Council get together and coordinate the re-streetscaping of Grenfell/Currie Streets, incorporating several of the features assisting bus movement, but do it in a coordinated manner using existing programs? I am sure that Council must have a budget for street renovations, and Currie/Grenfell as a major thoroughfare surely must have some funding out of that.

The original plan was a new bridge over the river, a new bus only road from Park Tce to East Tce then painted lanes to West Tce. $61m wasn't too unreasonable for that. The scaled back plans we see in the renders were a bit of a joke.

The planning on this one will continue and will be implemented when funds allow.

I simply cannot believe this attitude. Do you really think it's only South Australia that is forgoing something to help raise funds for the flood recovery? And something as minor as this - what's the big deal?

This summer: We've come out of the drought, unlike Western Australia
We didn't have any major flooding other than Stockport, very minor compared to Queensland, Victoria, and NSW
We haven't had a major bushfire (yet), unlike WA
We're the only state having a super harvest
Most of our crops got re-upgraded after being downgraded as damage wasn't as bad as expected

Considering how well we're travelling compared to other states, I for one am happy to give a little to help.

whilse I get your post Rhino it still doesn't make up for the fact that not only did we donate money - we are now FORCED to donate money and will be losing improvements to this state.

This state is being cheated out of things on the basis of "taking one for QLD"

the whole governmnet response is crap.

well Julia is helping out Anna Bligh whose opinion polls were on the slide prior to this flood
Queensland is a very important region also for the Federal Labor government due to lots of seats and it tends to swing

Realistically this is the only public transport project they could cancel, after all its little more than some road widening and painting the road funny colours. Think we'll see Rann painting the road, and Foley with some quickmix trying to get this project back on track ?

Should be interesting to see if any road projects get the chop as well.

Most the current projects currently under way or in the planning stages should be okay, as most of these are funded by the SA Government.

Not to mention thats where a huge amount of our food comes from. I think if you look at it on the other side of the coin you can justify it as securing our national interest.

Just in case you were thinking that SA was the only state getting projects chopped off the board or delayed, other states have also had projects affected. Brisbane's $8 billion Cross River Rail project is being delayed a few years and several projects that are supposed to flood-proof the Bruce Highway have also been canceled - strangely enough.

ADELAIDE'S $61 million O-Bahn extension will be shelved after the Federal Government withdrew funding.

The $61 million upgrade would have extended the service into the city centre by installing dedicated bus lanes along Hackney Rd and Grenfell and Currie streets.
Acting state Transport Minister John Hill said the State Government was not intending to pick up the tab for the federal project.
"We are obviously very disappointed with this decision on behalf of the residents and commuters of the northeastern suburbs of Adelaide," Mr Hill said.
"We will continue planning and designs for this important project so it is essentially shovel-ready for the Federal Government to fund when economic circumstances permit."
The O-Bahn is one of the city's busiest transport routes, ferrying seven million passengers into the city from the northeast suburbs each year.

Hip Hip Huzzah! The O-Bahn will be like it's good ol' days but with the new smiling Scanias!
Gridlock in CBD to soon become a thing of the past!
