Isn't this common when there's a change of government that the incoming government will purposely delay an infrastructure project of the previous government just so they can score political points about how bad the previous lot were. The fact they've gone so low as to attack Michael Deegan, the previous CEO of DPTI, even though he wasn't (officially) affiliated with the Labor Party.

Isn't this common when there's a change of government that the incoming government will purposely delay an infrastructure project of the previous government just so they can score political points about how bad the previous lot were. That's possible, but the delays appear to have begun before election day. The project should have been completed at most a fortnight after election day on the Labor timetable, which had included additional payments for night works to get it over and done with quickly.

The only genuine reason/s for delays was when the Fringe/Festival of light clashed with night time works and night works had to be stopped. There was also the TDU. Thinking a 1-2 month delay may be fair but dont understand 6 months+.

Both of those were scheduled and widely publicised months in advance. The work schedules could have been built around them when the government first announced a completion date and it was paying for extra night works to meet it.

Prediction:

1). The Government sends the long term tram network proposals to Infrastructure SA.

2). Loaded with high costs, and reduced benefits, it turns out to be uneconomic.

3). The Government uses this as an example of "Labor waste and inefficiency".

4). The Government then says the tram extensions will not proceed till they are economic. With a review in three years.

5). The Government then says that it will install the right turn when or if the extensions that will use such a turn become economic in the future.

6). When the report comes out in 3 years, they can reduce costs and increase benefits on selected routes so that the selected extension is economic, or keep the existing inflated costs and low benefits so that tram extensions never happen. Their choice according to the politics of the day. Maximum flexibility for them.

If the liberals were in power we wouldn't have this group
No oval hospital no medical precinct no kw tram festival plaza etc
They opposed it all they just don't seem to have a will to build infrastructure
It costs money and besides it doesn't benefit traditional Liberal voters

You must be fairly young citywatcher because here is what the Libs have proposed during their time in opposition.
1. Upgrading the current RAH instead of constructing the most expensive public hospital in the world, which apparently is still not quite fit for purpose.
2. Constrict a coveted stadium on the hospital site, including a revamped precinct with hotels etc, feeding an expanded convention precinct, and riverbank precinct INCLUDING a revamped festival plaza.
4. An expanded research and development precict based on the existing uni and RAH.

But you are correct.. no tram extension was proposed, so I guess this thread would be defunct, but you can hardly accuse the Libs of not offering up anything good bad or otherwise.

It's worth pointing out that these proposals were from 2010, from a team led by Martin Hamilton-Smith, who ended up being replaced by Isobel Redmond before crossing the House to Labor anyway. I used to have an image of the proposal, but don't anymore.

Yeah. All stupid half assed ideas which thankfully and quite rightly never saw daylight .
Unlike retractable lights one way expressways rerouting tapleys hill rd .
You know if the liberals had been in charge of the harbour bridge it would have ended up a horses drawn ferry .
