Yes but what happens when the Tonsley line becomes a full time service with trains every 15 minutes during the day?

We don't need another "Oaklands" mark 2 , due to any sort of long term planning (or short/medium term planning for that matter)

- Daws Road carries about half the amount of traffic as the Oaklands Crossing, and does not have two complex intersections within 100m on each side.
- The Tonsley Line can't carry more then 4 trains per hour, while the Seaford Line at Oaklands carries 12 trains per hour.
- Oaklands also has a station right next to the crossing, which means boom gates are down even while the southbound train is stopped at Oaklands. That adds about an extra minute per train, so 4 extra in the morning and 8 in the afternoon.

Very different circumstances.

Sturt Road is bad during daylight weekday hours and with a 15 minute train service in each direction(one every 7 1/2 minutes) it will be far worse.In the mornings it is not uncommon for traffic heading east along Sturt Road to be banked up from Marion to South Road-similar in the afternoons!
Add to this you have both the Sturt Police Station and Ambulance Depot alongside.
Buses struggle now to keep to their schedules between Flinders Uni/Flinders Medical Centre and Marion Centre-this will become a nightmare if the traffic has to stop to allow trains through this busy road,and Ambulances using this area in emergencies which happens frequently will be subject to massive delays.

Thanks for the responses, I'm glad they are building the overpass for the Tonsley extension. Does anyone know with the Oaklands Railway Crossing upgrade, if they are just building an overpass for the train line? Or will they build and underpass for Diagonal Rd as well? I honestly don't think building a train overpass will fix the traffic problem. I live near by, and know how bad the traffic can get.

Pedestrian crossings on the Seaford line to be closed for safety reasons.

Seaford line pedestrian to be upgraded and others to close under Railway Crossing Safety Strategy

PEDESTRIANS will get safer passage across key railway crossings as part of a project to prevent accidents and near-misses on the Seaford line.

But five other crossings will be closed to reduce journey times and improve traffic flow.

The State Government will install electronic pedestrian gates at Seventh Ave, Hove; the eastern end of Hove station; Dunluce Ave, Brighton; Beach Rd, Brighton; and at the southern end of Christie Downs station.

Crossings at King St, Brighton; Pine Ave, Seacliff; Hallett Cove station; Carlton St, Oaklands Park; and at the northern end of Christie Downs station, will close.

Transport Minister Stephen Mullighan said upgrading some crossings while removing others would “significantly improve safety along the Seaford rail line, while also improving the reliability of trains and reducing the journey time”.

The project will cost $2.5 million and is part of the government’s newly-released Railway Crossing Safety Strategy.

Work on the changes will start in the coming months.Image

Does anyone know of any plans to have an entrance/exit for pedestrians at the Western end of the Adelaide Railway Station? To make it easier to walk to the new RAH/Medical precinct.

No plans at this stage. When they eventually build the underground platforms for the CBD loop we might we see a change.
