Wow. That is a busy design. It's not necessarily good looking or ugly... just... busy...

This building looks, ok
I just find that it lacks height.. It would be nice to see another 10 levels added to this...

It looks like another uninspired street frontage on the way, though I hope I am totally wrong!
I am coming to the opinion that street-level amenity in Adelaide building design is something we really need to get a handle on - and fast.
Every building that goes up which does not add to the vibrancy and liveability of the city at street level (where most of us experience the city) is a lost opportunity. And that is very sad and frustrating to me. Maybe it's up to us citizens to start demanding more..

couldn't agree more with queen anne (relating to importance of street level activity and vibrancy).
apparently melbourne have implemented some street level standards for new development within the CBD and it's been very successful. sorry, i don't know any more information, i just remembered that i had seen an article on it... looked very impressive. they converted the side of an office building fronting a lane way into an interactive frontage with cafe and small shops, it totally transformed the area and won some awards i think.

Fully agree with that for here - ASAP!. The northern facade is totally unacceptable in relation to this. I Like the Victoria Sq aspect - esp. the cantilever. (Must have heard my complaints there ha ha!). Otherwise, hope they get on with it now.Hippodamus wrote:couldn't agree more with queen anne (relating to importance of street level activity and vibrancy).

Shame the major tenant has not been finalised yet as mentioned at the end of the article (interesting wording, sounds like there may be one waiting to sign up), hopefully soon.

Green light for city office tower project
DANIEL WILLS, LOCAL GOVERNMENT REPORTER
January 19, 2009 09:16pm
ADELAIDE City Council has approved new plans for Tower 8, a 20-storey office block it controversially rejected last year.
The council's Development Assessment Panel tonight passed changes to the $180 million project without a word of debate and gave the green light for building to begin on Franklin St.
The DAP's July decision to reject development triggered the State Government to strip it of planning approval powers for projects of over $10 million.
Last night's approval comes after a court battle between the council and developer Aspen Group which resulted in the Environmental Resources Development court recommending building proceed.
Aspen Group Manager of Major Projects Bob Boorman said the stoush cost his company almost $100,000 and he hoped the council would seek compromise on future developments before issuing an outright rejection.
"If they'd deferred the matter when it first came up it would have saved us all a lot of time and money," Mr Boorman said.
"Developers are always willing to sit down and talk through any problems with a development, and I'd like to see that happen more in the future."
Several of the DAP's independent industry experts were absent from the July vote, which allowed the sitting councillors to over-ride a recommendation from the administration Tower 8 be passed.
"Every now and then there is a glitch in the system," Mr Boorman said.
The building will become one of the city's largest and includes ground-floor retail space and basement car-parking.
The major tennant has not been finalised.

it almost sounds like they are saying they have one, but its not final...
[COM] Re: #APP: Tower 8 | 72m | 19lvls | Office [City Central]
this may/may not be legit, but someone commented on adelaidenow saying that the new tenant is tipped to be Australia Post.
[COM] Re: #APP: Tower 8 | 72m | 19lvls | Office [City Central]
Australia Post will take part of the ground and first couple of floors for mail sorting etc so they can move from the GPO building. I doubt they will be the main tenant though.
