I am a bit cross with myself because when I had a good look at the site on Monday evening, I saw them clearing an area with a bobcat etc. This must have been the tidying up for the crane base foundation, because that's where the crane is going up now.

The base is pretty well central to the building width and adjacent on the southern side of the building, pretty well on the "footpath" on Franklin street.

If that's the location, I'd dare say there will be two cranes. This crane to service the base and the next lowrise stage called "The Loft" and then a more central crane for Altitude.

Once again, just a guess!

Crane base and first sections are definately of Favco design.

I'm still sticking by a 1500D, 310D or 380D will go up here (Favelle Favco luffing crane)

What crane did Multiplex have at Newport Quays? Could this be the same one?

Saw the crane base today, quickly passing the site. It is nice and big. I am really confused though as to why it is located adjacent Franklin Street when Altitude is located further north in the site? I wasn't aware the other building adjacent Franklin Street had even been approved? Can anyone shed some light on what is going on?

I am wondering if the apartments facing Franklin Street will be a portion of the the student apartment numbers that were announced back when The Precinct development was first announced?

The model picture back on page two of this thread show the overall development site well but I can't work out was is going on right now?

I think the 3 section base located next to franklin is temporary, there are also 2 sections in foundation.

It would make sense if it was, but now I'm tipping that there'll be two cranes.

Cheers ever so much! There'll definetly be two cranes, because 'Loft' hasn't officially been proposed or marketed just yet, and they'll want to make use of its vacant site to construct Altitude quicker to ensure a smooth transition to constructing Loft once it begins (another 8-12 months away, given development lodgement, review and approval timeframe)

Thanks for those pics. Is the one adjacent Franklin street an actual base or just pieces for the crane when it is ready?

I think that you are right. The crane base sections along Franklin are probably just waiting to be lifted on to the base at the centre of the site.
